Hello.

Background:
I've been reading and studying the different ways of making money online for quite a long time. I made this site about 6months ago and wrote a couple of articles (800 and 500 words) on my niche and just left it be. Now I checked search console and the site ranks on average on position 50 on some keywords, and now I've made a commitment to work more on this page and start getting some traffic and eventually make some money of it.

My strategy:
Doing keyword research related to my niche and write posts about them, hoping to start ranking these low volume keywords and eventually getting some traffic on my site. I just wrote a post in which I added a content locker for an e-Book. I dont think anybody is going to complete the survey tho, I know I wouldnt. :D I'm not sure about the monetization yet, but we'll see when I first start getting some traffic.

What I got:

A Wordpress site with plugins: Yoast, Wordcount, Akismet, Popup maker (for a disclaimer pop-up when you enter the page, I dont want any minors.) and a contact form.
Three posts with the wordcount 500-800, no backlinks yet, I guess that'll make a big difference on ranking later on.

What I'll do:

Keyword research for low competition keywords and write articles on them. I read seocrabs method on finding keywords and was just thinking: If I find a low authority site that I'm trying to outrank, what if rest of the top results on the page are really high authority? Like wikipedia and such. Can I still get a good rank for my page, just like the low authority page that is chillin at the top results right now?

Nice to see an SEO journey with a long-tail keyword strategy. It's one that will always work if you put in enough time and links in my opinion.

My only real advice to you would be to really focus on building out your site a lot more. 3 unique pages of content is nothing in Google's eyes.

Provided that your niche is big enough, add at least 100 more — especially if you're planning on building out an authority site.

In other words, don't go crazy on your backlinking efforts just yet.

I would add a few links in the beginning but definitely focus on the content side of things in your case.

As for the last question in your post, please take time to read this blog post from Ahrefs to learn what a long-tail keyword really is.

Basically: A keyword with many keywords in it isn't necessary a long-tail keyword if it's still part of a larger theme in which case Google many times show more authoritative websites in the top. An example would be: how to make money online quickly - 6 keywords but NOT a long-tail keyword.

Great SEO's know this. Here's the blog post to learn what is: https://ahrefs.com/blog/long-tail-keywords/

So make sure you figure out if you're actually targeting long-tail keywords first, before asking yourself if you can outrank Wikipedia.

If it's not a long-tail keyword, and it's part of a larger theme you might have a hard time ranking. Go hard!

Good stuff. How many articles do you plan to put up each month?
