I test a domain if it can rank or not by doing the bare-minimum required for ranking it and then wait. For example, I do on-page, build some 2.0s to it along with PBN links on a single article and see if it ranks over time, if it doesn't, I point the PBNs to some other site.

Yes, I did go with an expired domain because of the existing link juice.

Really interesting journey and methodology from you, I got some questions:

1: how much of that expired domains u bought and how many RDs total?
2: the original language of that expire domain (i guess English?)
3: the current language of your semi-authority site (i guess maybe Indian language? or still English but only Indian audience)

I bought 3 expired domains and set them up as PBNs. Total RDs for them would be 16 + 12 + 13 = 41. (22 for the money site)
Original language was English.
Yup, my native language.

I won't necessarily be making them lengthy, I'll make them more comprehensive. Yes, I do write the content myself.

I use the difficulty rating to superficially filter the results and then use my own method to find out the actual difficulty.

Haven't really done anything regarding SEO lately, have been really busy with college submissions and stuff.

Here's a small update for now:

The article for which I interlinked now ranks #36 for mobile (from #51), I think one or two PBNs should be enough to rank this.
Another one of my articles now ranks #20 for mobile and #18 for desktop.
Put an opt-in for my site (I had done this before, forgot to mention )
Signed up for Amazon affiliates, got a sale surprisingly. Just need to optimise for conversions now even though I intend to use this as a portfolio website.

Sorry guys, I couldn't really update this thread as I was busy dealing with University stuff, but now, with that being handled I'm gonna continue working on this site.

So, I opened my search console today and was sort of surprised.

Not bad huh? I couldn't qualify for the amazon affiliates thingy as I didn't have enough sales then, I'll look for an alternative monetize the site.

The keyword which I was ranking for (around 5400 searches per month) still retains position 4 on the first page.

Going to be building 3 new PBNs for my next keyword, will let you guys know the step-by-step process to set one up perfectly. Stay tuned!

Hmm, here we go:

Expired domain for money site: $10 (1 year registration) + $10 (Seller's price)
For Hosting I am using AWS, it costs me like $2.5-3 a month: (Been like 7 months since I hosted the site so: $21)
Expired PBN domain: $10 (1 year registration) + $10 (Seller's price) + $5 (Whois Privacy) + $15 (Hosting)
2 Expired Domains (Scraped): $10 (1 year registration) + $5 (Whois Privacy) + $15 (Hosting) x 2: $60
Web 2.0 Package: $60

Total: $201

This is the amount, give or take $5 since I'm too tired to check the exact amounts right now.

My bad, I've corrected the order now. XD

I am using AWS only for my money site because I can get promotional credits later and get my site hosted for free. Plus, I think it has better shared hosting environment than other hosts because AWS sort of poses as a barrier-to-entry for less tech-savvy PBN guys, they tend to go for one-click install hostings like Namecheap, Hostgator etc.

For my PBNs I use linux shared hosting from different web hosts.

Nothing specific, I just took the keyword which I wanted to target and did split testing to figure out the demographics of my potential visitors, the kind of devices, stuff like that.

Split testing is when you run 2 ads in every ad group to see which one yields a higher CTR / converts more.
