    Hi all,

For the past 2 years I have invested all my energy into making a business out of something that never really had any potential. I kind of got deluded that if I just kept working at it things would eventually start to turn around. Well now I have no money, and hardly no income, but do have some clarity to realise it's time to move on, this business was not to do with internet marketing.

I first saw the forums years ago , years and years ago, just read bits and pieces. Now I am back and pleased to see the forums are still an active community of people.

My Goals with my Internet Marketing journey are as follows (in order of difficulty I guess)...

    1) Make a sale or generate some income (even if just .01c) from an online venture. I imagine it must be a good feeling the moment you generate your first profit online.
    2) Make $100 profit from an online venture after all running costs etc are deducted.
    3) Make $200 a day from an online venture for one month.

Point 3 is my main goal, but I am not stupid, I realise if internet marketing was easy, and a newcomer could just make $200 a day, then well, there would be no poor people in the world. So I do not think it is going to be easy but if I can achieve 3, then my work with IM would have been perhaps my proudest accomplishment in my life.

How am I going to do this

I have not identified my strategy yet, but to help with this I plan to spend a great deal of time reading the forums and investigating what others have said. There is a bit of a cynic in me by nature (such that I find myself doubting the claims of others etc.) and I think this will be a hurdle but one that should hopefully not be too hard to overcome, once I get to 'know' a few successful people in the community.

To help me with my goals of making money online now, I plan to update in this thread with a list of threads I have studied, and what I have learnt from them what my thinking is about them. I hope by doing this my own ideas will become clearer and also I will build a library I can refer to as I develop in my apprenticeship here, because I guess I am an apprentice now.

I could just post these in a personal blog, or a file off-line etc, but I hope by sharing my thoughts here, I will benefit from the exchange of ideas with other members etc.

    What I know...

I have web design skills and have previously sold these services to others and had no complaints, so I think this will be useful.
    I am familiar with twitter.
I know what clickbank is, (a database of affiliate programs etc).
I have read an article here about how to make money, by commenting on other web sites using googles search feature, and linking to your own review site, and am thinking this might be the method I try first of all. I will write a bit more about this, when I find the link to the article again, and re-read it, and will make this the first thread in my mini library I am starting to build of reference threads in this thread.
I also am aware that while not everyone will 'get rich' by Internet Marketing, for sure the people that will not with a certainty, are those that believe they are unable to, so I am going to work hard to dispel the notion that it's just too hard.

Thanks for reading all of this if you have. I look forward to sharing things as my journey progresses.

I cant post link to this BHW article as the moderation is triggered when I try to link to another BHW thread, is there a way of linking to other BHW posts without breaking any rules?

For now I will just post the BHW location, without the link.

    1) Making money from thousands of twitter accounts

    blackhat-seo/my-journey-discussions/813002-2016-twitter-journey-120-day-mylikes-2.html

The above thread belongs to forum member gashead. I was attracted to it recently because I have been exploring some basic twitter marketing strategies myself the past few months, but only with 1-2 accounts not 1900! This business model seems to focus on the power of scale. Gashead is using some software with the project, namely FollowLiker. This has been interesting to learn about as my main twitter process with my own account had been to simply use 'unfollowers' - recently rebranded to something else, I can't remember the name. To follow 1k accounts a day, and every day unfollow account that haven't followed me back in 2 days. Using the technique I got up to about 3.5k followers on my own account (but this my personal account so has my photo, although it is geared around a niche) I have been thinking of ways how I can monetize this a bit, and think I may come back to this as a possible idea for me to look at. Followliker seems quite powerful. I'm a little worried that if I start using it with my personal account that twitter might detect followerliker is being used and block my account, I know they can be a bit tetchy about marketing practices. But I will look into this more. Gashead also talks about VPS's (Virtual Private Servers) which I have heard of but never used. They seem to add a lot more power than conventional shared hosting plans. All my hosting experience has been with hostgators shared hosting plans to date. Gashead also talks about using many different proxies. I know that a proxy is a way of anonimizing the source of an internet activity, and my own experience with it has been to access blocked torrent sites in the UK, since the laws changed preventing which sites could and couldn't be accessed.

This was an interesting read, and opened my eyes up to the power of marketing over many different accounts, using automated practices on twitter. Questions I still have is whether it would be as profitable or more profitable to only have 1 or 2 or 3 or 4, accounts that you really work on building up in their own niches, instead of 1920 accounts that are kind of like little robots. Another question I have was prompted by a comment someone posted in the thread, they said instead of using mylikes (which from what I gather seems to be a website that pays you to get people to click on links or something similar) why don't you use your own site. My gut feeling at the moment is this would be a better route because for a day or two investigation into what links you want to promote etc and getting your site setup, you would minimise the risk of twitter blocking your account because they see it associated with a site like mylikes, so this is something I want to look at a bit more. Maybe I have this luxury with my web dev skillset though, and not everyone else does, so perhaps that's the reason others wouldn't choose to do this.

This was a useful article and opened my eyes up a bit to the power of twitter marketing in scale.

    Actions to take forward:
    - Investigate FollowLiker in more detail, figure out if it is 'safe' to use on an account you want to keep 'forever' and explore how it might be useful from a marketing perspective.

I've decided I need to add a special requirement to my journey thread, each day I will post at least 1 practical step I have taken to move closer to making money from Internet Marketing. It's too easy to read many good ideas on here, and never actually take any action I think. That's a risk for myself for sure, so this requirement will force me to take action to make things happen.

OK First positive action step. OPEN A CLICKBANK ACCOUNT.

I have just finished re-reading the article I mentioned in my very first post
    REFERENCE LIBRARY
    2) Make money from a review blog
    blackhat-seo/my-journey-discussions/822436-journey-make-money-online.html

and this seems like the best method for me at the moment to match with my web experience.

I'm going to open a clickbank account now. Already I can hear low key ideas in my mind such as - this will not work, it will just be trivial amounts of money, it will take too long to put the site together, it will be too hard to find a good niche. blah blah blah.

Such a bad mindset. But I will ignore it and push forward with positive action.

Questions: If something has a clout of 0.5 on clickbank is it not worth promoting? I searched for some products in a niche I have experience in but there are only a few products showing AVG dollar amounts, and all have clouts < 1.

Going to open my click bank account now, will reply back once my account is active.

    Thanks nice advice.

    Day 2 Update

Well this thread is serving it's purpose, namely it's moving me forward with my IM hopes.
Believe it or not some 14 hours passed since I said i wanted to open a click bank account and opening one but now i have one.

    cb.jpg

I think the intro videos are very good, and i also have checked out clickbank university, and while i dont have the funds spare at the moment $47 (per month) I think I will probabally take this offer up at some point.

I just signed up for the free webinar in the above pic too.

Hardest part of making an account was deciding on a name. After a quick bit of research I decided to use the format indexxx where xxx is some numbers. Nice and generic. Then it doesnt matter what I am promoting people wont think the name is out of place.

Also when i get my own product up there in the future i can just make a new account for that I am thinking.

I watched a great video today with Guy Kawaski , who i had heard of before but didnt know much about. I like his outright manner and he gave some good tips about twitter marketing and marketing in general. Next I am going to buy his book 'the art of social media' and read this. I think it's important when you are going into a new area to really read and study and apply what you learn.

Yesterday I spent some time reading 'blackhat-seo/my-journey-discussions/822436-journey-make-money-online.html' - and the site linked to in this, as that's going to be my main first venture at generating some money online.

Now i have my click bank account my next two tasks are to...

    1) get the Guy Kawasaki book.
    2) decide what niche i'm going to work with first as an affiliate.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Thanks chenwinz.

    Quick Update:
I've spent the last 2 hours reading other peoples journey threads here. Already just from reading the journey threads I'm learning a tonne, and also getting pretty inspired.
I last looked into internet marketing about 15 years ago (im in my early 30's). It was very diferent back then. I found it harder to find good ideas etc. Wow things have changed. I'm excited to think i may actually be able to start making things happening on the IM front thanks to what i'm learning here etc. Also as a bit more of an adult now, i'm feeling like i might actually make this happen. Why shouldn't it?! :)

    Day 3/4 Update

Well I don't know what to say this thing is certainly taking over a life of it's own. I have practically been spending every waking hour in the last two days researching on BHW.

Here's what I have been up to....

    Actions Update!
I've completed one of my previous two actions - I got the Guy Kawasaki book. Now I just have to read it.

I haven't managed to decide on my niche yet, more on that towards the end of this post.

    Blogger / AdSense

Took notes on Paranoid Android's 5ml journey thread by copying every one of his posts and replies from the thread (that had learning points so 90% of them) into a word file and reading to digest and explore. Things I have learnt are why it's good to setup an offshore company in BVI and have a Hong Kong bank account if you pay a lot of tax (don't think i'll be bothered about this problem when I get there!) - that you can make a lot of money with blogger and adsense - and that amazon affiliation isn't all that rewarding financially, you are better off setting up your own drop ship arrangement with a company you find yourself and have them label the products up for you. Although blogger/adsense seem profitable it does seem like an economy of scale and to get the $300 a day PA was making he had tonnes of blogger accounts, and a lot of traffic coming in from traffic sources he had already built, such as pintrest which I learnt can be a great marketing tool (i'd never have guessed that, I've more or less completely ignored it in my social media exploration in the past).

I compiled a list of about 20 questions I had (lol) and posted them in his thread, and am looking forward to learning more from that.

One of the things I'm really focussed on is taking positive action. When I was younger I had so many 'ideas' and got excited about 'potential' that I saw all around me but never actually did anything. Well now I have the luxury of hindsight and know that one of the most important things is to take positive practical action towards what you want each day, so that's what I'm doing.

My first effort was creating a blogger blog, and trying to get adsense setup on it. My goal was just to generate a tiny profit, even if 1 click this would be progress. I spent about 5 hours trying to get this to work but couldn't figure it out. Mainly because my blogspot blog said it wasn't eligible for adsense. There is an ability to edit html, and I'm thinking I can maybe just edit the html and put the adsense in myself, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet, so for now the adsense mini adventure with blogspot is on hold.

    Twitter

I have been following DMA's twitter journey with interest and this is where I learnt about follow liker. My own twitter account I have had about a year and just sporadically use unfollowers these days to follow a couple of hundred people a day and unfollow those that don't follow me back. When I first created it I was following 1k a day and unfollowing after 2 days of no follow back. I have 3.5k followers now and that's pretty cool. But now that I'm working on IM I don't have time to be doing this with my own account (going in an out of unfollowers every day) let alone any others I make for the IM projects I'm working on.

Follow liker looks powerful, and I think I will invest in it at some point. I am a bit put off by the fact that I have never used a VPS before and don't know how to use one, and I've also never used a proxy before, (not that I can afford the luxury of a vps at the moment anyway) but hopefully I can work it out. For now with just a few accounts if I get it I can just use it from my own machine.

Another idea I learnt from Paranoid Android was to embed videos in blog articles to get views as people like good videos if you can find decent ones. I thought this was a good idea and although I guess the copyright is a bit of a grey area, having done a bit of research online - I've decided that I'm going to run with it for YT. YouTube have a share button and this can be disabled by the uploader so if I only share with the share button, I really can't see anyone could have a legal argument.

I tried this out with my own site and personal twitter account yesterday by finding a good video that appealed to my niche of followers and got 14 views on the page which is more than I've had ever I think - so it's proved to me it works and i'll be looking to build on this tactic with my projects going forward.

    SEO

I used to think SEO was some kind of mystical magical formula that only a few people knew about. In the days I've been on BHW I've started to get my head around this now, and I was also prompted to study up on this away from the forum too, because I didn't understand a lot of what I was reading on the forum. Pleased to say that is going nicely, and I now understand head/body/longtail, I know that the keyword planner exists, and I know the importance of readability (Flesch Reading Ease test), keyword density, and meta. I also understand offsite optimisation is very risky with black hat linking methods, and should probabally only be used for 'make a quick buck' projects where you just want to market something for a very short time and fully expect the site to be negative SEO'd when google catch on to what you've done. I saw a guy (not on BHW) in a video I watched that had payed for link building and had like 20k links to his site in a 2 week period from hardly none in the weeks before, and then they died out quickly in the following months. I understand now why this is likely to really badly affect rankings as Google will quickly figure it out.

On a more advanced level thanks to t0mmy's PBN Guide I've learnt what a PBN is and I think this will be helpful in my SEO journey going forward. Also from reading a SL thread (yes I found that forum :()against an SEO service provider I also ended up learning a tonne (seems there is no place I can go on BHW without learning, even the SL forum) including some basic terms such as SILO, and IFTTT which I now have a vague idea about, but I'm going to explore a bit more in the future.

I've already started optimising my own pages on my existing little blog for on site SEO and am thinking strategically about my plans for some off page optimisation.

    CPALead

From reading JagWilson's CPALead journey I learnt that CPALead exists and that there is potential to make money there. I did a quick google to check their site out but found the old BHW thread from years ago when they were under a different owner and acting badly. Since then I found their official BHW thread and was really impressed with the new owners professionalism (well, new years ago when the thread was made) and it encouraged me to check this network out regardless of what I had read about from years ago.

I posted some questions in there to the owner, and a member from BHW pm'd me and told me they would help me out/give me some tips on there if I open an account with their link. This seemed like a good opportunity for me, and I don't really have anything to lose from this - so I've done that and am waiting for them to catch up with me, as they said to get back to them once my account has been approved, which it has now. OG's are another term I've picked up and need to explore and learn about. I think I've learnt more vocab the past 4 days or so than I have in the past 4 years!

    Clickbank

Having learnt the huge amount I already have, I am conscious now that the only real effort I have had at applying any of it to make money hit a road block (my blogger / adsense fail) so until I get any advice from Paranoid Android in his thread on this, i'm changing tact- and going for the clickbank route, as my first project at getting something up and just out there and doing something.

This was the plan I originally decided to take, as meathead's easy $100 a day perfect for noobs was the first article I read on BHW.

My second action point in my earlier post was to pick a niche and I still haven't done that so I'm going to do that today. It's not because I've been lazy just there's a fair bit that goes into niche research that I'm still getting my head around. Such as going 3 levels deep, e.g. Sports --> Basketball --> College Basketball ; and then trying to focus on getting some kind of authority in that niche instead of jumping in straight at 1 or 2 which you practically have no chance of carving any influence out in. A phrase I learnt in an SEO video I watched yesterday has stuck with me and I think it's a good one - every time you pick a niche you are basically "picking a fight".

I like this metaphor and right now I don't want to pick a fight with a heavy weight fighter, (or even a good amateur fighter) i.e. big companies with millions to be spent on SEO and teams working around the clock. So i'm going to spend some time today trying to find my niche.

I am due $30 today I am owed from a friend and this will allow me to buy my niche domain. I already have hosting, so there should be no reason why I can't get something up and running in a reasonable time.

    Actions!
    1) Decide on my first niche for clickbank promotion.
    2) Start reading Guy Kawaskai book.
    3) Learn about how to use a VPS and a Proxy.
    4) Get some banners up on my existing site, and continue experimenting with the video blog post idea that seemed to work ok yesterday.
    5) Get my first review website up and running.

I think these actions might take a few days to get completed but I'm up for it!

I'm reading this forum, and researching what I'm learning etc pretty much every waking hour at the moment (no exaggeration) and I can really feel the knowledge starting to build up and the little strands starting to connect with each other. I'm also starting to realise that IM is as much an art as a science because all the strands of tactics etc - it's how you piece them together in your campaign that can make all the difference and there's basically an infinite amount of ways of doing that.

But enough already... This has been a long post and it's time to get acting on those actions. This post has helped me distil some key ideas which is nice, and a few times I had to check into my subscribed threads to remember different threads I learnt different things in so that's cool. Definitely getting value from keeping it updated.

p.s. if anyone can recommend the cheapest registrar on the planet to get .com names from that would be useful (i'm paying about $15 I think on avg with godaddy) as they wont let me use any more 99p codes. I also need the privacy feature which skyrockets the price to $15 or so, as I don't want my home address publicy available on all my domains. I should probably set up some kind of bulk account for the domains, but don't know what the MOQ's are for that, or where the best place to look is.

(I'm also looking for recomendations for good hosts if you know any cheap/good ones! - ha, I know the two don't usually go hand in hand)

Thanks for reading this long post guys! Off to do some work!

Not cheapest but cheaper then $15 i suggest you look at dynadot for domains. I think godaddy has a $1 coupon that is another option.

Thanks Olaff, I'll check dynadot out. I can't use coupon in godaddy, because since I used the first one it always tells me I can't use any more. What is really killing it is the privacy, I thought about using a fake address, but probably not wise on a domain I want to keep. Otherwise I might try and set up some temp forwarding address, probably cheaper in long run than paying $10 on every domain I purchase.

    Thanks vitarank!

    Day 5/6

I have taken some practical steps but am feeling a little uneasy with just how little practical stuff has happened since I joined. I think this impatience is slightly healthy but also I should not worry too much. I can not expect to get everything working within 7 days of discovering the power of internet marketing on here.

    What I have done today....

    CPALEAD

    Project 1

Today has been busy. I have identified a potential CPALead niche, for use with link lockers. I have bought a domain name (with namesilo, instead of godaddy because with the privacy option its about half the price.. learnt that from my research on the forums here so that was nice).

I purchased 1 proxy. Just to start learning how to use them. Fairly simple, i'm only using for browsing web traffic at the moment.

I setup my twitter account for my CPALead website. I explored some themes I like for my CPALead website but haven't quite found one I'm totally happy with yet so the search continues.

This is a project I hope to build into a long term viable earner. So I have also invested $22 for twitter cover and avatar design on fiverr.

    Cost so far ~ $32

    Project 2
I've created a blogger blog (just a barebones at the moment) where I'm going to link to some cool download, and lock that with a link locker. The download is just linking to another site that is hosting the download (not mine) so super simple in principle. I have never used blogger before (am a wordpress guy) so am feeling like i'm working with a straight jacket on but i'm getting there.

    Cost so far 0.

I did reflect that I've already spent $30 and the idea was I am meant to be making money here... but I'm hoping it will make all the difference as twitter is going to be my main source of marketing in the short term for project 1 so I need a decent image on twitter I think.

    CLICKBANK

I am thinking of going into the self-help niche, I always like reading this kind of material so it might make sense. Need to explore this in more detail.

Been doing stuff all day today so off to take a break now.

    Thanks for reading!

Updating here to keep things on track in the blog.

The fiverrr twitter cover designer came back and said he couldn't do it in the end after he was paid so ended up refunding it, complete waste of my time. Put the funds I got back into a logo designer, and have paid out ~ $15 for a logo, for my niche cpa-leadlocker project, excited to see how this comes back.

At a kind of a sticky fork in my planning at the moment. From being around on BHW I have learnt of some great perfectly 'legal' IM ideas, and also some grey area ones (such as torrent sharing ; and porn re-uploading). I've been tempted to get into some of the grey area ideas but decided against it. I'd rather try to build up a sustainable business that I have no fear of getting pulled out from under me for whatever reason.

This means i'm essentially focussing on my CPA Lead niche site and also Clickbank, I've identified a potential product on clickbank and have got in touch with the product owner with some questions.

I'm also looking into VPS's its a big relative expense but could prove handy I think.

I managed to take advantage of a free BING advertising coupon so have $70 sitting in my bing advertising account. Pretty nice moving forward in the scheme of things i'd say. I shared the method for that here, If you don't already have a bing account.

That's it for now! I hope to moving things forward over next few days.
