Journey to First $$ on the Interwebs.

Hey!

Right off the bat, sorry for the weak English, I'm not native.

So, I've been lurking this forum for almost 2 years and tried to make some money, but always failed.

I am not going with any specific methods, I've started a blog (Design blog/Design Freebies) and plan to post every day (I have multiple categories for freebies, and some day specific topics). Will monetize with AdSense and later with paid design assets.

What I did so far:

• Bought a Domain (Had to Buy two Actually, will explain below)
• Bought Hosting (iPage, domain combo)
• Applied Newspaper theme
• Did the whole Design (logo, colors...)
• Posted 4 articles

Just by posting my articles on Reddit, my site has around 500 visits total, which is nice for me at least.

Why did I buy 2 domains?

This is my first time making a website and didn't do any research, so I bought and named my website EXACTLY like another site that does the same thing, and has similar outlook. Mine was plural name, his was singular.

I don't know much about SEO and Rankings, so the only thing I checked was if I'm indexed, and I am so that is nice.

I will post whenever I can, so I hope this journey gets traction because it would be a huge motivator for me

So I posted my new post on Reddit, on a subreddit that is in top 3 Design Subreddits. The post got some good traction and a lot of people genuinely enjoyed the article.

I got around 900+ visits just from that post. The only problem is that I am unsure about other marketing ways, outside from Reddit and I can't be self-promoting on those subs all the time.

I will not start posting earnings ATM, because I didn't even start monetizing

You have to squeeze something from the Reddit visits, or else they are in vane ... Or stop posting on reddit for now, wait until your site has more value, and you can monetize the extra traffic later.

I will start collecting emails, so I can build a list and promote paid content and assets in the future.

What are the best plugins/ways to make a popup, with the custom design that asks for e-mails? Also, I will give a nice free design asset pack when subscribed.

I GOT MY FIRST EMAIL SUBMIT!

So, as I said, I started collecting e-mails today and made a really simple scroll popup. I am giving a $100 worth of products for new subscribers, and I got a subscriber!\\

Also, I signed up my website for AdSense, and put the ad codes, waiting for confirmation.

Reddit traffic is still going, around 1700 visits ATM

Just crossed 2500 total views on my site. Reddit Posts still going strong.

2500 views in two days? Not bad, keep it up!

4 days , but it is all direct traffic, nothing from search engines.

So as my Reddit post started to fade, I posted a new article on the website and didn't advertise at all.

The site got 200 views (Still From Reddit), and only 10 clicks on the new article.

I am not sure about my site marketing, so if you have any methods, please tell me
