Hello, Black Hat World!

For the past ~ 6 months, I have been selling a particular digital product on several marketplaces. With no targeted ads and poor creatives, I reached a point where it generates me ~400$+ a month almost entirely passively. Compared to some of my other income streams, I enjoy the passiveness of selling this product.

Recently I was stroked by the idea that I could potentially scale my sales of this product using google search ads. One of my clients told me that he somehow managed to find me on a google search (one of my sales pages is somehow ranking on a second page on a weirdly related keyword). Marketplaces really suck as you need to play the game on their rules... The nature of my product is like that, so it makes sense that people would want to search for it on google.

I want this thread to be short. I will post all the numbers I will get right in here.

What am I going to do?
Build a single product Shopify store and buy some traffic on google search using the keywords that directly match my product.

What do I have right now?
  • A product that has proven to be on-demand. The price is in the 100-200$ range.
  • A sales video that I was using on the marketplaces. I think I can slightly edit it to fit the new campaign.
  • A sales copy

What do I need?
  • I have ordered a solid design for my Shopify store landing page (the one you get to after clicking through the SERP).
  • Purchase a domain
  • Transfer the design from PSD to Shopify (going to hire a freelancer for this)
The nature of the product is like click and download... So I hope the sales won't take long to wait for...

I am slightly concerned regarding the click cost as google keyword planner showed me this:

As you can see the prices are pretty high... in the lowest range, I would have to pay ~6$ for a click, 600$ for 100 clicks... I never tried google search ads before, so I don't really know what to expect... Maybe I would end up having to double or triple my product cost.

spent so far:
80$ sales video
280$ Shopify store design

upcoming costs:
~100$ transfer the store design from PSD to code.
I am going to start by spending ~500$ on search ads. As that is x3 of my current product cost.
I also plan to collect emails from my landing page.

I am going to post here all the numbers I will get in this campaign.

I am happy to share this information with everyone here as I believe in the idea of team media buying ;)

The PSD design should be ready on Thursday. I got the programmer ready to start transfering the PSD to Shopify store and adding all the necessary animation.
Will keep all the updates here.

The design is ready, the sales video ready, the product almost ready. Now I need to convert the PSD to a Shopify store

You may try youtube ads PPV which is cheaper? This way you can add views to your video and may rank naturally on youtube or even on google?

thanks for the idea. However, I guess the clients I am looking for are more likely to be googling this product. I have a couple more marketing angles for this product. I may try youtube ads on other angles which target a different type of an audience

I am having a hard time finding a freelancer who can convert PSD to Shopify and add some custom animations...
Seems like building a static page, and converting the PSD to Shopify is easy and cheap but I also want to add animations which seem to increase the price dramatically.

So far on Fiverr, I did not find anyone who would claim to be able to complete the job. Some Fiverr pros replied to me that they can do it but their price is 7k$ which seems to be a ridiculous amount to me.

Going to try to search for someone on Upwork...

I am also thinking of maybe giving up with Shopify and switching my project to WordPress which might happen to be easier.

Any suggestions?

After connecting with tens of freelancers on various platforms I have found out that it's somehow more complicated to create custom animated pages on Shopify and also much more expensive compared to WordPress...

I decided to try searching for someone who can convert PSD to WP + follow my instructions on how to animate the elements. It was much easier to find freelancers for this type of job and the pricing appeared to be much more affordable. However, the spread in the prices was huge. Some were offering me to do the job in 5 days for 150$ others were saying 2000$ and 20 days... I went somewhere in the middle and placed an order with a guy from Fiverr who claims to get the website done for 200$ with all the animations in the following five days... Let's see how it goes... If he really can deliver what I am looking for that will save me a few hundred dollars... If not... I will go with another freelancer who seems to be trustworthy but is about 4 times more expensive.

Current status:
Converting PSD to WP LP, animating the elements.

Will keep all the updates here.

Can you show example of animation you are looking for?
r u a web dev? If so pls pm me with your portfolio prices. I cant show examples. I have a file with instructions on how and what to animate but that would prob reveal my product which I dont wanna do here for now.

Yes i am web dev....but selling services through pm is against the forum rules...so i can't do that. I was just curious about the animation...

The designer has delivered the landing page and the animations. I was impressed with what he did for 250$. I have sent the LP to the designer and received some revisions. The coder promised to deliver the revised version today. I want to host everything on Cloudways. However, after registering an account with CW they asked me to go through manual verification. Which, I am afraid, I might not pass due to my citizenship.

Any recommendations for managed hosting? Something with the same benefits as Cloudways?

Once the LP is hosted I will set up the checkout page, about us, and email autoresponder and at that moment I will be ready to start running ads.

Along with Google search ads I am also thinking of trying LinkedIn ads as my product is very B2B friendly. Shopify store owners, drop shippers, and e-commerce businesses all are my potential customers.

The website is published. I managed to get approved on cloudways. The desktop version of the LP is almost finished. Mobile version still requires work to be done. Now I am thinking of what to do with the payment gateway as my country is not eligible for Paypal or stripe...

Thanks to https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/my-sales-your-stripe.1429331/
I have found someone interested in doing a JV with me. I will use his stripe. I will have to pay the stripe commission (~3%), and I will pay 7% to the person who provides me with his stripe account.

Task list for now:
1) Finish with the revisions on the desktop version of the LP
2) Rebuild the mobile version of the LP
3) Integrate stripe, checkout page/pop-up
4) Add some minor revisions to the sales copy

Once the above is complete, I will be ready to start setting up my google search ads campaign.

The Mobile version is ready...
Now connecting the LP to stripe and ready to start advertising
