Within' the past couple of months I've been shadow banned 3-4 times & Each time, I've gotten off Shadow Ban no problem and my engagement is back to normal, if not, it's better since I'm getting tons of new followers daily.
Each time I got shadow ban, it became worse and worse...
Time #1 ~ I was shadow banned only on new posts, I still got tons of engagement from explore/top search rank & previously posted feed on the top of hashtags
#2 ~ I was only shadow banned on new posts, I got decreased engagement while shadow banned, I stopped seeing myself in explore on other pages (etc), I was blocked from being searched unless they typed my full, username.
#3 ~ all my post were shadow banned, engagement tanked, low stats, 50-75% less reach & engagement, I was blocked from being searched unless they typed my full, username.
#4 ~ repeat of #3 but since I gained followers in between shadow bans, I was able to maintain reasonable engagement compared to the previous ban (slight confidence booster)
Then I began putting my notes to use.
My first shadow bans disappeared in a few days (which could've also been triggered by foreign language instagram can't translate, on my profile/bio)
&
Once the extreme shadow ban hit, it lasted a minimum of 2 weeks.
& During the first extreme shadow bans, I was posting without realizing I was shadow banned (with 20-25 hashtags) - which made me realize the 2 weeks doesn't start - until you stop using more than 0-2 hashtags / change your game up, while you still use the account like a normal human with normal interaction/browsing/posting frequencies.
On the most recent shadow ban, using the experience I explained above - I was able to get off Shadow Ban within 2 weeks of using my account like I normally would, with some break days - just without using the Hashtags.
Dumping the account (aka: not using it), or continuing to spam in hashtags (aka: never checking if you're shadow ban), even editing out hashtags - seems to leave the account shadow banned longer + decrease trust score because you haven't proved you're not spamming, with good/normal behaviour. (I'd assume people posting with less than 10-15 hashtags per post don't get shadow banned, so there wouldn't be any hiccups against good users)
And I've also noticed, if your posts/comments get deleted it'll lead to a shadow ban + lowering of comment/search/algorithm rank (etc) now
(So be careful with what you do for now)
I believe it's getting so bad because this is a defense mechanism to avoid north american election interference on I/G. US/Canada are being hit with tons of political bots (a quick google news search will tell you all about it), so when good users report + delete spammer content, instagram seems to be shadow banning (ANY/ALL) accounts to avoid spammer propaganda to be spread for coming weeks, until they have a foot in the door to handle what account is doing what (political/non-political)
So unfortunately, it's backfiring and normal users are feeling the consequences like myself and some of you, this new "warning before you're disabled" system instagram implemented has some obvious flaws which can be abused quite easily. Hopefully they're worked out & hopefully my experience benefits you!

& Next time I'm shadow banned (the 4-5th+ time), I'll repeat what I did & comment back here to see if it's fool proof for everybody to use
