I am about to start a project. A personal affilaite site which is too large to SEO (and not worth it).

I have a site with hundreds of articles, in a moderate niche.

My goal? Do what I SUCK at. SMM. I aim to learn how to pull enough traffic on this site to make $100 a day.

My time line?

24 months. Or two years.

Why?

When I do social promotion I use a lot of 'cheats'. I pay accounts to retweet or mention. I build accounts to share. Basically, I throw money at the project.

Not everyone can do that. And I have a lot of time now (for me). I can give a few hours a week.

SEO work done on the site:

Main keyword (xx,xxx searches) is ranked number 1/2. It dances occasionally since I am an affiliate for one other site in top three and link to them.

The other hundred(s) articles ard optimized but only ten rank in top ten.

Social Accounts I have for this site:

Twitter with 1k organic followers
Facebook Page and User Account
Reddit Account with Low Karma
Google Plus Account

Plan for week one:

1. Start reading.

I need to learn this SMM thing.

2. Share all articles on SM platforms.

Why? I need to do something or I will drive myself crazy. So I will bookmark every article.

3. Do research for my niche.

I plan to target twitter and reddit. They convert well for this niche in the last and are likely to get traffic for my niche.

To readers:

If you have tips, or suggested reading, please let me know. I know the basics, but SMM was always number two to SEO.

I know SEO. I am not a social expert. This journey will be an average guy learning SMM with $0 and getting traffic.

Good luck man, watching someone's journey who contributed a lot to the forum is very exciting, hope you keep updating.

All the best!! If you are able to achieve with just social media, it will be awesome.

Plodding away and reading.

I found a posting frequency suggestion on sproutsocial:

  • Post on Facebook 3-10 times a week
  • Tweet at least five times a day
  • Instagram around 1.5 times a day
  • Post on LinkedIn 2-5 times a week
Twitter Work:

I am going to stick to this frequency. For twitter I started making some 'visuals' on canvas. Since everything I read said visuals get more traffic on twitter.

Simple images, nothing fancy. I plan to reuse these due to tweeting frequency.

I am also shortening website urls I share to prevent the twitter prearticle appearing. I think that looks too promotional.

Playing with hashtags. The niche doesnt get much engagement. What does get engagement are authentic pictures someone took.

I will need to find a way to get a bunch of unique images that look like they were taken by an amateur.

I most likely will just have to take pictures myself the next few days.

I followed the big players in the niche with the most engagement to get a feel for what they do that has engagement and the most retweets.

I will be monitoring the accounts for the next few days and figure out a marketing approach.

So far today it looks like most engagenent happens during office hours. Just one day, so I will keep monitoring to see if today was an anomaly.

Reddit Work:

I need to farm karma. Easiest way I know about are cute cat pictures. Sister in law has a cat and doesnt live far so in the next couple weeks I will swing by to take some pictures.

I am also posting in the relevent subreddits and answering questions. No upvotes really. I need to improve the content quality I presume.

Other Social Media:

I looked into facebook groups and I found a few that fit. Requested invite with my dedicated facebook for this site.

I am poking around google plus communities as well and trying to figure that out. Far smaller and little engagement for my niche but some marketers are using the platform in my niche so I will poke around and see what is going on.

Im trying to use original images for this project because I have seen people get picked apart using other peoples images on reddit and reposts have far lower engagement.

After reading all your guides, im sure this should be a easy peasy, lemon squeezy for you.

Best if luck!

Todays update:

Twitter is twitter. Random engagement. I have not been able to nail the timing for posting, but have some graphics and pictures for the page.

On reddit I started sharing pictures. Sadly, I keep getting flagged for post posting frequency.

A lot of the pic dump subreddits have some filters I am getting caught in. Requiring me to message a mod and get the pics approved. All around headache.

Hey buddy, are you using any tool for the SMM or doing it manually?

Manual for now.

I don't like to automate until I have a firm grasp on what I am doing. Right now I am even doing the posting (multiple times a day) manually.

Thank you for sharing your journey. Best of luck, I'm looking forward to updates. I'm curious to see how you do, as you're dedicated to doing everything manually, and I'm rooting for you!

Today I played with a pinned tweet and twitter cards.

Signing up for an advertisers account to make a twitter card. That way I kinda get a call to action.

Twitter bookmarks dont convert that well so I hope the twitter card approach will get more traffic.

Researching niche players to mention who will retweet.

Also working on what link to add to the twitter bio.

Reddit work is finding more cute pictures.

Signed up with followlike to gain some followers. Since im using no cash, this is what I must do.

Signed up for triberr. I love triberr. Easy traffic source for me. Sharring about 10 posts a day in relevant groups. After a couple weeks I ask to be included and usually get in.

Tweeting frequency is every two hours.

So far so good.

I am grinding on twitter. Up about 50 followers (most from follow like).

I posted cute kitty pictures on reddit. A few up votes.

I plan to get my brother in law to use his artistic skills (and professional photographer skills) to take pictures to post.

The site im using this for tanked after google updates, but I had 4 clicks to amazon daily the last few days.

Thats a good sign.

I don't track website traffic normally for seo. I should for social media traffic.

How do you planing to earn? Adsense or else?
How do you planing to get traffic from IG to your website? Does it worst it?
