[Journey] Making money with Blogspot and Original Content

I decided to start this journey because I've been seeing a lot of questions about ranking websites with content only and I'm curious about the answer myself so I wanted to try it.

I've decided to use a blogspot blog because it's free and I'd like to do this journey with no startup investment. I will be writing all content myself for the blog and I'm also considering using social media sites to draw traffic. My goal is to write at least 2K words per day to post on the blog and I will do some small keyword research using google's keyword planner, keyword shitter and keyword revealer. I really have no idea how I will monetize this blog or if I will monetize it at all but the main goal is to get traffic and see if it will rank for lower keywords.

If anyone wants to join me in this journey (newbies who really don't have money to invest) then feel free to post here. I feel like anyone can follow along because as you can probably tell I'm not the best at writing so if I can rank with content alone then so can you.

I've already created the blog and it's already indexed and all I've written is an about me page. I'm trying to figure out how best to silo the site but the niche is a little random so it's not very easy. I will post an update tomorrow about my keyword research, words written and whatever else I can think of.

I know I haven't updated this journey like I said before but I didn't give up on it. I have been posting content on the blog I started. Right now I have about 8K words of content on it. Not much but it's something. Haven't really seen any traffic from the content yet but it only has a few posts...

What I did to generate more traffic is started a youtube channel around my blog. I just started it 2 days ago and posted 7 videos on varying between 3 minutes and 15 minutes. I already have gained 45 subscribers and have over 7K views, all organic. The videos aren't original, I searched my niche on youtube, downloaded some videos, added a custom made intro and custom made outro with a subscribe opt-in.

Since I've started the channel, the traffic of my blog has been about 100 views a day. I will continue posting content and more videos and report back later. Thanks to those that are reading
 
This is a nice journey to fall up on... I also want to know if blogspot is the right choice to start with when you dont have any startup investments...
 
I've done this before. In 1 year, my blogspot blog gain PR2 status
 
@WeFinesseI think blogspot is a good place to start if you don't have any money especially since you can customize it if you know a little html/ css. I have websites with paid hosting, I'm basically just doing this as a case study kinda

@Jobdollarr I'm not sure what type of monetization method I will use. For now I'm just working on building traffic. When I'm receiving 500 or more visits a day to my blog, I will implement monetization.

@Bebert I hope to gain some authority with this blog as well. We will see...
 
I'm not sure you can make blogspot look any better with their original template....

@WeFinesse Well I am sure since I've done it. Lol and if you do a simple google search, you will see many custom templates made for blogger.

Here's an update for you guys... My youtube channel is doing GREAT! Over 12K views with my 7 videos and up to 80 subscribers. But this journey is about ranking with content so I've been researching new ideas for content that will attract more visitors. I'm writing a 2K-3K word article and should have it posted by tomorrow.

Did you embed the youtube videos into your blog posts?
That can sometimes give a boost to google properties such as blogger.

Well since all the videos I have posted are basically about 1 post on my blog, I've only embedded one of the videos. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will think of new ways that I can embed all the videos I upload.
 
-Update: Posted 2K word article on the blog. Youtube videos still bringing in views and page visits to my blog. Today got over 300 page views mainly from youtube traffic but a small amount from google. Also I'm getting traffic from other places because people have been sharing my videos, which is quite nice!

I'm thinking once my blog reaches 5K views per day I will end this journey/ case study thread. I will start to monetize the blog once it reaches 1K views per day.

Why don't you want to monetize it right now?
 
Nice journey, are you planning to not build any links whatsoever? I doubt your content itself would be sufficient to rank.

Thats pretty much the whole idea of the thread to see if its possible to rank with no backlinks!
 
About customizing Blogger, can a blogspot be customize to a poll or voting or ranking site, where users can rank or vote to the picture?

I have a 5 blogspot news, and they can not cash.
They have 500 traffic per day.

I've also had some luck with blogspot. I have a book review blogspot blog that easily reached PR2 within a year that it was made. Best of luck with the journey!

I really just want to see how much traffic I can get, not really worried about money right now

No not planning on building any links to it at all. I'm hoping links will be built naturally by visitors who want to share my content. And I'm targeting really low competition keywords so I'm hoping I can rank for some with content alone.

Yes I think they have a gadget you can add that allows poll voting

Update: I'm not currently tracking any of the keywords I've been targeting in my articles but I'm thinking that I may be ranking for some because I'm getting traffic from google now and not just from my youtube videos. I uploaded another 7 videos to my youtube account. Now my channel has close to 30K views and 260 subscribers. My blog reached 500 page views already today. I should be up to 1K views by next week sometime so I'm starting to think about ways I can monetize now.
