[JOURNEY] Long term authority site from zero to the sky

From what I've learned http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/white-hat-seo/512570-my-authority-site-building-guide.html I just started to build my first authority site. Since I am a full time php developer, all programming tasks are handled by myself and after that, so will be the article writing.

The niche I am targeting has lots of sites, directories and blogs, so creating new articles is not a problem.

1. Bought a domain that sounds more like a brand with hosting from hostgator (already had it)
2. A simple classic wordpress theme (free at the moment)
3. Privacy policy, terms and conditions and contact us have been added.
4. Added a newsletter sign up form with MailChimp (free version for now)
5. Social accounts have been created and added to the sidebar
6. Added "share" article buttons(sharedaddy), without counter for now

TO DO:
1. create a logo(a text in NYTimes style) and images for pinterest/twitter/google+/fb
2. Optimise theme's code and remove the date and time when an article was posted
3. create a few articles (5) and signup for webmaster tools (Google and Bing)
4. Prepare for google authorship


Monetization: adsense, amazon, private banner ads, paid listings. I am aiming at writing at least one article a day.


PS. I've read a few posts where OP says something like this: "first I am writing a few article then doing the SEO"..I think SEO needs to be done when posting the article, optimise everything before search engine start the indexing.

Good luck with your Journey. But remember to be constant. Have seen so many journals these days that after a week they just stop updating.

I need to occupy my time after work with something that doesn't involve programming and I need to keep "others" occupied as well

I'm trying the same thing but I am outsourcing the articles since I'm not a good writer ...

My girlfriend finished the logo and header image with some variations and they've been added to social services.

Now reading http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/ and trying to make it right.

Everything's almost finished, installed analytics, made various seo and visual changes to the theme, just have to turn off the maintenance and write some articles.

First article has been written, containing about 400 words and 13 pictures. Shared on facebook, tweeted it, shared on G+ and pinned all images with an appropriate description on Pinterest under the same category as it is on the website.

WP SEO by Yoast shows everything green, except this: "Content: No", will figure it out a bit later.

What do you think? Would Instagram worth joining and sharing the pictures?

What niche is it?

Installed Better WP Security and configured it manually, because I didn't need some of it's options. Going to write my second article.

Published a 3rd article, but I am a bit worried about this:

The keyword density is 11.11%, which is over the advised 4.5% maximum, the keyword was found 13 times.


At least this is what Yoast says. The keyword can be found in text one time only, but every image (12 images) have the name like "something KEYWORDS 001.jpg". Does it matter so much ?

Until now there are 6 articles, all passed copyscape without problems. Waiting for Google to fully index the website and start growing in serp.

I notice that for many searches, pinterest comes on the first results almost all the time, with a board containing the specific keyword. I'll try this approach to see how it goes and see if it make any difference.

Unless you are running a blackhat site(which it obviously is not ) then you should make this a public thread and share your site. There are reasons why you might not want to do that but Rushdie shared his site from the off and hence drove a lot of traffic to it.

This is terrible advice for reasons that should be obvious, but I'll go ahead and quote the last post in Rushdie's abandoned journey thread for good measure.

And I would disagree. If you are building an authority site and its all white hat then you should be looking to drive traffic to it from any where possible. If you have a popular site you will get lots of correspondence...sometimes from people who havent anything nice to say to you. Goes with the territory of putting yourself out there.
