Hi guys, my names Aeoryth and this will be my first of what will hopefully be several "journey" threads here on BHW.

I've been researching IM and trying various methods for about 6 months now, but I have yet to make any money. I have a whole list of excuses for that, but it mainly comes down to my own laziness. It's time to commit to a true journey and really get myself to the place I want to be.

The main reason I'm doing this is to offer myself a diary for my progress, as well as receive the motivation, tips, and support that I've come to love about this site. Wish me luck, guys!

Alright, let's get down to business:

    What I'm Doing

I will be creating a niche site from scratch that will hopefully join the ranks of other authority sites in the future. I'll be monetizing the site through e-mail list building and adsense. My budget is minimal, but I also don't have a job which puts me in a great position as far as time goes.

I'm loosely following t0mmy's method from his thread "How to Start a LEGIT Online Money Making Opportunity for Less Than $87!!" (I don't have the post count to post links yet, but I'm sure you guys can find the post just by searching)

    What I've Done Today

Today is mostly just set-up. I've already chosen my niche and decided on a name.

    Purchases Made:
Domain + WordPress Hosting from GoDaddy -- $12 with coupon code (you can find coupon codes on Google)
Premium Wordpress Theme: $51 (I'm using Selasih from ThemeForest)

    Social Media:

    Created Twitter
    Created Google+
    Created Pinterest
    Created Instagram

I'm having some trouble making my Facebook page. The page seems to get created, but when I click on the link to the page, the url changes to a regular Facebook url with "/getting_started?page_id=XXXXXXX" at the end and nothing happens. If I click it enough times, I get a blank white page. If anyone can help me out with this that'd be wonderful.

I've also created a temporary logo to make my pages look more professional. I'll have a better one designed when I have some more money.

    What I'm Doing Tomorrow

Tomorrow I'll be customizing the site, adding post categories, installing plugins, and ultimately writing content. My goal by the end of the day is to have the site fully functional with at least 5 pieces of quality content with 1k-3k words. I'll share those posts on each of my social media accounts.

I'll also be spending some time doing research into other blogs and sites in my niche. I'll be gathering a list of ideas for content as well as joining several forums for the purposes of building more links in the future and establishing a more widespread brand.

That's it for tonight guys. Thanks for reading and I hope to see you following my journey! I'll have another post up same time tomorrow.

Best of luck with your project. Keep us posted on how it goes. One thing I would do is get a dedicated IP if I were you. If you dont have the funds for that at least make sure that the domain that you are on is clean and not listed in any blacklist sites. If it is you are just going to be spinning your wheels.

Thanks for the tip, CenTex. I did actually check the domain to make sure it was clean, thanks to a memory of another thread I was reading on here a few months back. I wasn't expecting anything crazy anyway, since I've chosen a rather unique name. I'll get a dedicated IP once I have some real traffic. Moral of the story: it pays to do your research.

For those of you that will be following my journey that are especially new, this is the only piece of advice I can give you if you want to be successful at IM:

    READ. READ. READ. READ. READ!!!!

Read everything. Read IM blogs, read every thread you can get your hands on on every forum you can find. BHW is my favorite but most people here know about Warrior Forum which is another good place for IM talk. If you read something you don't understand, Google it or use the search function on the site. If you can't find an answer, ask. Invest time in yourself before you invest money into a business venture, and it'll pay dividends in the long run. This stuff is not easy in the slightest -- if it was, we'd all be millionaires.

Again, thanks for the tip, CenTex. I'm sure there's a lot of people that will be reading this who wouldn't know to check their domain.

Well guys, I woke up quite a bit late today so I don't have as much time as I thought I did.

I've also found that I have a LOT to do to customize the site, so I'll probably be spending most of the day doing that. By the end of the day, I want my site to be fully ready for content.

I'll have another post later to let you guys know what I've accomplished.

Good luck dude. I'll likely be starting a very similar journey based off the same t0mmy thread. I'm a newby too. Are you targeting specific keywords for your content to rank in Google? Will SEO/social be your main sources of traffic?

Good luck! I would love to see your progress! What is something that you learned so far that would be beneficial to a noob like me? lol.

My main source of traffic will be social media and SEO, yes, but I'll be advertising the site on several message boards as well as paying for traffic once I see some adsense income. I know my niche inside and out, and it won't be hard to get reliable traffic. Oh, I forgot to mention I'll probably be doing some Amazon affiliate stuff on my site but the income from that will be secondary. I intend to advertise some books related to my niche later on.

Patience and perseverance is key in this occupation. Choose a method that looks interesting to you and work hard at it until you see money. For most methods, if you don't see at least SOME money within the first month or two you're probably doing something wrong. Do understand, though, that when I say "some money" I mean pennies. With most methods you'll start off getting a few cents here and a couple bucks there, but it won't be anything substantial. If you see money, it means what you're doing has potential. Scale it up and work out the bugs until it's working the absolute best you think it can. Then move on to something else.

Also of note: most methods take awhile before you see money coming in. This is why I said "within the first month or two". You're going to spend weeks working very hard at something and it's going to be very hard to keep going when you're not seeing any results. I've given up on several methods that in hindsight could have made me a great income, but I dropped them after a month of not making any money. Think of it like working out. You don't go do 50 pushups and expect to look like Mr. Universe. You don't write a piece of content and expect millions of dollars. This stuff is hard work, and it takes patience and perseverance to push through until you really see the results you're looking for. Be consistent, do your research, put the hours in, and you WILL make money guaranteed.

    What I Did Today

    Pages Created:
    Contact
    About
    Privacy Policy
2000 word Static page for my niche. I expect to link back to it in a lot of articles, and I want it to be one of the first things that newcomers read, so I put it up in the nav bar. I may put a button or link to it elsewhere later, but for now I'm going to stick it on the nav bar.
Static page promoting my book. I'm currently writing a book in this niche and I intend to use the site to promote it later. This page is hidden for now, but once my book is released I'm going to make it live and use it as a landing page.

    Customizing:
    Got the site colors set
Header and footer set with logos and social media links
Uploaded some pictures I intend to use in blog posts later
    E-mail opt-in created

    Content:

Apart from the 2000 words I wrote for the static page mentioned above, I've written and posted another 2500 word piece. I know I said I would have 5 pieces of content done by the end of the day, but there's a lot of really cool stuff in this theme and I spent a lot of time making my site look good.

    Social Media:

Shared my content across all platforms. Still haven't gotten the Facebook issue fixed, but it seems to work okay on my phone so I'll just use that for now. The social pages don't take a whole lot of work since their job is mostly just to link back to my posts. I may later use my socials to push CPA offers, but I will have to be very selective. My goal is to have a large, engaged user base and I don't want to make people leave because I'm promoting shitty offers.

    Other stuff:

Created accounts on 5 different forums in my niche, and made an "introduction" post on each. Haven't posted any links to my site or even mentioned that I have one yet. There's quite a few ways I could go about handling my forum presence(s) and I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, so for now I'm just going to reply to posts and try to add as much value as I can while building a reputation. Until I'm ready, I won't mention my site in any of my forum posts. If any of you have any suggestions for how to handle my forum accounts, let me know. I've always heard establishing yourself in forums related to your niche is really good for generating traffic+authority but I've never really tried it myself.

    A Few Words

I didn't get nearly as much accomplished as I would have liked to today, but after writing out this post and looking at what I've done, I don't feel so bad. Tomorrow will be a more productive day. The next few days are going to be 100% content. I'll be churning out articles as fast as I can write them so that I can populate the site with words. This niche is really broad and a lot of the keywords are very high competition, but I have the benefit of a near-infinite amount of long tail keywords to target. There's a few "low-hanging fruit" keywords too that I will be targeting in some smaller posts.

I'll be back on tomorrow morning to reply to any comments on this thread, then I'll be getting to work. See you all tomorrow!

Another productive day! I'm not going to detail out this post like I did with the others because all I did today was write content. I finished 5 more articles today, and published two of them. I'm keeping the other ones saved for times when I won't be able to publish anything. That way I'll have new content every day.

As always I shared these on all of my social media pages. I also shared the website with several friends and family members that I know will enjoy it.

This is basically what all of my posts are going to say for the next few days, but I will be posting every day. This way I can document my progress and I also want to set an example to the newbies that if you want to be successful at IM you have to put the hours in. That means getting some work done every single day.

Thanks for sticking around and reading my journey, guys. If any of you are still in this thread after 6 months you'll be able to say you saw me when I had nothing. I look forward to seeing you all on the other side ;)

Good luck man on the whole authority site. This is going to be a long journey I tell you because you have a shit tonne of pages to rank. If you ever need me to check over the site and all I'd be happy to help out :) I remember a year back when I was in the same position as you opening my niche site and waiting for the $$! Luckily I banked hard on my niche and everything played well after that, hopefully same thing happens to you!
