After spending more than 10 years selling WordPress plugins on CodeCanyon, after I saw that Envato is changing course and it is doomed, so I decided to build my own marketplace for WordPress plugins and themes. The technical side was done by me and I enjoyed working on it a lot: building the platform, styling, page speed, payments, licensing, downloads, support systems, reviews and everything else was actually the easy part compared to what comes next.
The real challenge is convincing people to use it. I've been too close to the project for too long, so I figured I'd ask people who have no emotional attachment to it.
My main questions are:
1. If you're a developer, what would stop you from listing your products on a new marketplace? Is it only lack of bulk traffic or also something else?
2. If you're a buyer, what would stop you from purchasing from one, trust, lack of product variety or something I cannot think of right now?
I'm not looking for compliments or promotion, I'd prefer honest criticism.
For context, the marketplace is WPBay. Feel free to look it up if you'd like, it will help my SEO 0.000001% LOL
After you checked it, what would be your biggest hesitation, would you trust it or not?
Thanks for your time!
