[Journey] Growing a Youtube Channel From Scratch With Ads - Would it Work?

Hi Folks,

I'm starting this journey to see if it's possible to grow a Youtube Channel using ads - for now, I will be using Google AdWords only.
  • Let's say the cost per 1 video to make is $50 (Outsourced).
  • I'm willing to invest up to $500 per month in total in the channel between videos and ads costs.
Invested:
  • 2 videos published so far = $100
  • Ads = $110
  • Total = $210
Results:

We are at +200 subscribers already and 15 watch hours (it's a shame they don't count hours coming from youtube advertising).

Otherwise, I would be on +700 watch hours.

1st Milestone:
Is to reach 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch time (hours).
I believe we can reach 1000 subscribers in August - September
But not sure about watch hours yet.
We will see...

I'm using google adwords, not sure what you mean with Youtube beta for ads.

YouTube beta for ads is a new feature that YouTube added directly onto YouTube Studio, So it is basically AdWords directly from with in YouTube studio.

It is beta and is available to channels that have the 3 features enabled.

I'm testing with both, I'm more inclined towards the infeed type as it results in more subscribers.

I will re-test both separately, when I have like 10 videos in total and monitor which one brings more viewers to other videos posted and not just to the video being promoted.

Yes, I don't have that feature on my channel as of now, maybe I will get access to it later when the channel grows more.
 
A small tip to get watch hours from running the ads. Split your video into two parts. The end of the first part should be more engaging step and people should be eager to know what next. In that point, inform people to watch the second part of this video and place the link for it. Run ads for part 1 video and the views you get to part 2 video will be counted for watch hours.

That's a good idea. The only issue is that I don't want to push viewers to do anything extra at this stage, but I might do it in the future when I have more videos published on the channel.

Exactly, I know that this journey will help answer the question if growing a channel with ads works or not. There might be some differences about niches but it should be helpful anyways.

For sure.

I cannot disclose the exact niche, but it's in the tutorials - how to niche. And the audience is big enough.

I will post an update sometime next week.
 
An update:

We are at:
  • +1100 subscribers now (subscribers count reached).
  • 152 watch hours (3.8% of the goal).
  • 3 Videos posted so far.
I get around 10 hours of watch time per day now it seems.. I need to publish more and more videos to increase it a little bit.

It looks like the 3rd video is getting more impressions. That looks good.
