Hey Folks,

Like I mentioned in my introduction thread, I've been a member of BHW for over 10 years, but I never engaged with this community.

This thread is my first attempt at a journey of any kind. Either online or offline. I never kept a journal, and I've always been the kind of person that goes with the flow and never felt the need to have a structure or a plan in place. And this might work for a while, but if you need to scale things up and take them to the next level, you need a plan. Hence this journey.

The goal of this journey is to motivate me, keep me accountable, and to provide me with a canvas where I can draft out ideas and share/brainstorm them with you guys. Of course, I'm also hoping that I will meet some great people here and maybe get some good advice from this awesome community.

About Me:

I'm Robert, 38 years old, and I've been earning a living online for 15 years now. I have a wide range of skills, which is both a blessing and a curse since it's hard to focus on only one thing and perfect your craft. I'm the kind of guy who thinks that everything is doable, and even if you don't know how to do something, you can always learn or find someone who does.

So some of my skills are:
  • Video Editing
  • Animation (2D, 3D)
  • 3D Modeling & Rendering
  • Online Marketing
  • Web Design
  • Graphic Design
  • SEO
In my past, I've started or been involved in all sorts of projects like Niche & Authority Websites, Ecommerce, Youtube Channels, Apps, Video Games, TV Shows, and so on.

Lately, I've focused more on Video Editing & Animation. I am currently working as a freelancer for various clients.

The Plan:

The end goal of this journey is to create a successful digital online agency. I plan to focus on small businesses and startups that need a partner to take care of their digital marketing. This includes selling services like Web Design, Seo, Copywriting, Social Marketing, Video Marketing, PPC, etc.

This is going to be a two-phase plan:
  1. The first phase is improving my image and portfolio as a freelancer and generate the funding to support the agency.
  2. The second phase is to find & train the talent needed for operating the agency and start to migrate some of my freelancer clients to the agency.
I know it's not much of a plan, but I will get into more details later and keep you updated as things progress.

Client Acquisition:

On the freelancing side, most of my clients are referrals from old clients. However, I'm planning to apply for any exciting projects I find on Upwork and also to add PPC in the mix to advertise my services. I'm also toying with the idea of opening a sales thread here on BHW.

On the agency side, I will focus on cold calling at first, combined with PPC. SEO & Social Media Marketing will also be an essential aspect of our promotion with a focus on Linkedin, but I will not ignore all the other major players. Since I have the knowledge and equipment, we will also create a YouTube Channel.

Of course, I'm open to suggestions if you guys think of any other methods of getting my services in front of people.

Current situation

I rented an office so I can work without the distractions at home, and honestly, I recommend this to everyone working from home. My productivity increased a lot since I work from my office. You are a lot more focused, and the best part is that you can separate your work from your "personal life".

I hired an assistant that is helping me with my day to day operations as a freelancer.

Regarding clients, I have a few people I work with regularly to cover my expenses and to put food on the table. I plan to post at the end of each month, my results (income vs. expenses).

----------

I hope you folks will join me on this journey so that we can learn from this experience together. I will try to update this thread as much as possible to let you know the struggles I encounter and how I overcome them.

To-Do for this week:
  • Finish the content for the personal website (Services pages, Portfolio)
  • Add at least 3 articles to the blog
  • Add Live Chat
  • Add "Book a consultation" feature
  • Set up the CRM

That's about it in a nutshell. I'm planning to update this thread daily if I have something worth sharing. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Welcome to my journey,
Looking forward to meeting you all

Robert

Awesome journey, Robert. I'll be following as I'm in the same boat but with less skills and years behind me

Let's crush it!

You know, just the thing that your post and text structure is so organized, tells that you are serious about it :)

I know, your journey will be a great success! Good luck!

A quick update for today. I managed to implement a LiveChat function on my website and I finished the book a consultation form which was actually put to the test by a company from Ireland. Had a lovely 30 minutes discussion with them. The need 3 videos from now showcasing some of their past projects. We'll see how it's gonna turn out next week after I'm gonna send my proposal.

Working on the service pages now.

I will keep you folks updated. Things are looking good :)
