About Me
Recent CS graduate having trouble in the job market. Found work as a helpdesk tech that pays rent but with lots of time on my hands I want to pursue other income streams to pay the bills, learn new things, and help fund certs (would like to be sysadmin but that seems less & less appealing)

Why Do I write this?
To keep track of my own Progress, hold myself accountable, to maybe inspire others to take action, and to get advice's from BHW members

What are my GOALS?
To make $1000 per month as supplementary income.

What Have I Done so far?
I've made a sleek website showcasing various 'examples' (until I can replace with a portfolio of real clients). Got domain, working contact forms, associated email.
Using available APIs I've also scraped google maps to find businesses without websites in my area to build a contact list of potential customers.

What is Next?
1. For the first couple customers? Reach out to my list of businesses: phone calls, emails, and texts. I'm sure this can be automated but I'll see how much success (or lack of) I get from cold calling. I feel that by targeting small businesses local to my area I'll be able to get a decent return on more personal cold calls being a local freelancer. If I'm spending hours contacting and not getting customers I'll automate. I don't have experience with that though and don't know if pre-recorded phone calls, text messages, emails, or Facebook messages (many of these businesses have their 'website' link to their facebook page) would be best suited. ATM I'm leaning more towards just FB messages as I don't want to be a spammer.

2. Add business to google and get my site ranked. I'd like to be top 3 result for ~"website building" searches coming from IPs in my local area.

3. Create ads! Craigslist, fiverr, facebook ads, google ads. All targeting my local area when possible.

My Budget
Currently I have spent $50. This includes a license to bootstrap studio, a short and memorable domain, and VPS. I'm ready to spend more on ads and site ranking, but will have to wait until after I get my first couple customers.

Motive
Tired of either sitting on my ass or doing work I'm not proud of. I'm not entirely sure what it is I want to do in my life (most of all how to make a living) so I just want to try things and see what fits, and out of making YT channels, blogging, SEO ranking, or freelancing, this seems the most suitable for what I know at the moment.

I aim to update this post weekly. Thanks for reading :-)

Feedback / suggestions / criticism welcome!

Quite a well-planned journey, good luck man!

I could not identify what services are you planning to offer to your customers? Am I missing anything here?

Website building, it says so above.
Yeah, thanks for pointing that out :)

@jobi Wish you all the best with your venture my friend.

P.S. : Just a small suggestion, also create a Youtube channel and social media account on either FB or Insta and keep it growing with drip feed content. After some time you can start generating some revenue from You Tube and you can sell your FB and Insta accounts for passive income. - This is what I would have done if I were you :)

It could be appropiate to wait until I upgrade this account before to publically share any hint about a future service to be offered thru this account.

However, if you https://imgur.com/MJVfblV wondering about the plan going on and it is not just a trick in my web browser pointing out a unexisting notification...

Just let me know.

Great plan and looking for your updates. Good Luck

Start advertising in Craigslist along with your local Pennysaver newspaper

Remember that for the same amount of time invested you will probably earn more money selling sales funnels

There's some awesome courses there are they safe to download?

OP, good luck with your journey!

After 300+ targeted local cold calls, and very nearly giving up I finally got a client. Not a very good rate at all :/. Actively pursuing clients is not a great use of time and I really overestimated how effective it would be, which is a shame because I thought I was being real clever scraping maps API and I don't really know how I can leverage these phones/emails without being a spammer, so so much for that lol. Maybe I'm just a bad salesperson.

Anyways, after getting payed for this gig I'm going to going to do what I can to more effectively pull clients passively. Going to use the money I get to pay for google ads, to get my site ranked, and to pay a graphic designer to get a handful of good looking image adverts to update my craigslist and FB marketplace ads with, might also pay for a short video ad for YT.

While working on this though I got some good ideas for niche websites, so once I finish this persons site and make good magnets to pull customers passively I'll reuse what I learn for this niche site idea.

Will post again soon

Do you scrape emails with Scrapebox?
