Joomla VS Wordpress

Well before discovering BHW I used to work on Joomla, all websites developped for our costumers was made via Joomla, and we got some good result in SEO with this CMS. In my country arround 80% of sites developped via CMS are made with Joomla little part with drupal but no WP. So i'd like some experts opinion what are the + and - of each one(WP/Joomla)? Is it worth it to switch all my new sites and my business website to WP? WHY?

Work with whatever is easier for you. For example, I work almost exclusively with Drupal.
This is because I can make websites faster, better in Drupal without touching the code unlike WP or Joomla.

But there is a perceived steep learning curve with Drupal. Whatever works for you, honestly.

Stick to what you know. WP is shit in terms of SEO and not only. Both CMS (and others too) require massive customization to optimize for on-site SEO. See my guide on WP optimization to understand what I mean.

edit: I agree with madoctopus and dubious its all about what you know, now if you feel like learning something else then by all means create a site on whatever platform that may be. Most of my friends do wordpress but since I learned on drupal thats what I typically use, however I switch between several depending on what kind of site im making.

Wordpress and Joomla are both great CMS's and both have their strengths however there would be no real benefit to switching over all your websites from Joomla to Wordpress. There are some great SEO plugins for WP but there are also some good ones for Joomla. As far as a search engine is concerned, they don't care what you are using as long as you have good content, a good internal link structure and you aren't doing any black hat stuff.

Joomla does tend to be very quirky and Wordpress is much easier for novices to use. Another major difference is that templates developed for Wordpress tend to be suited for blogging layouts whereas extensions and templates for Joomla tend to be better suited for more traditional website purposes.

Second link is a retarded comparison. It is a comparison more of popularity than strengths and weaknesses. What does number of tweets/FB fans/google searches has to do with how good a platform is?

Also it says WP has 5/5 stars for out of the box SEO and drupal has 4/5. I give drupal 3/5 out of the box and WP I give it -1/5 out of the box. As a matter of fact WP has absolutely nothing useful for SEO out of the box, even more it has bad "features".

Drupal ease of instalation hard? No shit?! It is as easy as WP. Customization yes, might be harder because you have significantly more flexibility which means power but installation itself is a breeze.

In my opinion comparing CMS from the end user perspective is useless. They should be compared from the developer's perspective because any site without customization simply sucks. So the question is which is better as a development platform. Such a comparison can only be made by a developer who used all of the sistems extensively and is proficient in each of them not by a writer of an online magazine who can't differentiate between a class member and a variable.

If I would have to choose between Drupal and WP, Drupal would win hands down as a development platform, with one mention: it requires a dedicated server and I recommend it only for big complex sites. If you deploy Drupal on shared hosting it will simply be slow in most cases. It needs great optimization of server/db/caching/filesystem to really shine. Out of the box is as fast as WP (which means very slow from my perspective) and that is thumbs up again because Drupal does a lot more stuff than WP in the same time. The moment you add plugins, bells and whistles and custom stuff it will literally crawl if you don't have proper optimizations in place.

Only advantage I give to WP over any other CMS is popularity (lots of ready made themes and plugins) and simplicity/ease of development and customization. That however is also what makes it a bad choice for a very complex system.

Both are good and have their own features. Joomla is a bit difficult to use and WordPress is easy to use so i am WP for CMS and other purpose.

Thanks for your precious advices guys, I think i'll stay on Joomla as it will take a long time to my team to master WP as they do with joomla.

I just want to admit that wordpress is super easy to work with! Plugins/themes + Free premium themes (If you know what I mean),everything is set up ! I don't know much about Joomla but you should work with what's easier for you! If you were a newbie I would recommend Wordpress for you! Good Luck

WP is the best CMS ever made. You can make any types of site with from a simple blog to eCommerce store.

I also use Joomla a lot for clients, then i learn wp and i agree it's the most simple cms for blog style. Joomla is for complex site model. I agree wordpress can be used more than blog but in terms of customization, the Joomla is my choice. If you have knowledge in Joomla then i am sure you will not having hard time to learn wordpress because it's more simpler than Joomla.

In my opinion, WP id a content delivery system. Mo matter what you do in word press it revolves around pages and posts. This is great for delivery of information, but lousy for almost everything else. Sure you can get plugins to do things, but Joomla and Drupal are real Content Management Systems, not simply a delivery system.

I am sorry, but most WordPress themes look and act like a blog. Many of them have no flexibility at all, and many that do still have restrictions that kill the flexibility, and auto populate or fail to display certain sections.

I use HTML and WordPress a lot for small sites, for more complex or interactive sites, Joomla is my choice. It is simply more suited for getting the functionality pf the site right. By the same token, Joomla is not my choice for e-commerce. Magento is what I use there.

I am also working with Joomla 2.5.
For me, speed was a huge issue. It took me two weeks to basically figure out that I have to use two extremely important plugins:

Jotcache and JCH Optimize

The first one is a much better caching tool than the default one and the latter is able to merge and compress js and css.

I personally don't have have experience with any of the above but yeah most of my clients are using wordpress and they are quiet satisfied with that.

Wordpress is great! great for SEO, great for design, great for common users, great for selling, I never use anything but wordpress, Id probably use it for a Ecommerce site too

also tried both but so far joomla is my best bet as its very flexible...I never returned o wordpress again after I tried joomla..

Joomla is a pain in the arse. The simplest things are a real ball ache in Joomla whereas they are straight forward in WP plus there are loads of useful plugins for WP making most things quicker, cheaper and easier.
