agree with you 100%, its much more flexible. Dont know why everybody quoted my first post here but you guys have been stuck up to WP for too long. I agree its the most popular among so called designers cuz they have never tried anything else and they just wanna prove that its the best. Its okey i guess, but i personally dont like using it cuz it looks bad to me.
Back end is horrible if comparing to joomla. Joomla is faster and you can do more things on it if of course you know what you are doing.
Dont know who heard what about seo in WP and Joomla, but you can forget all the nonsense you have read on internet cuz there are millions different views and you wont find out whats better unless you try to rank both. So dont just say WP is more SEO friendly cuz you used only WP in your life, dont even have a clue how to install joomla and have read somebody's post that WP is the best )))

We use wordpress on the majority of the websites that go through our office. We've seen most clients have issues with Joomla since pages are called Articles, and people can really understand wordpress better.

Why Joomla?
1. WP has to be updated all the time / Joomla only once within few years.
2. 80% of spam and attacks are directed towards WP sites (after them follow forums and only after that Joomla and Drupal).
3. Super easy to work with main menu, submenu and side menu (you can have even more)
4. It is much, much easier to place and organise content/ads wherever you want... and i'm not talking about sidebar only (Joomla consists from module positions - you can replace any module with your own html).
... humm, I will stop on this one... don't want to continue.
I have been building Joomla sites for a long, long time and the only people who complain about it are the ones who can't operate it.
of course Joomla has many problems as WP does as well -> the main one is that it takes quite a long time to learn it.

My suggestion: if it isn't a cooperate/business website - go for WP

... oh yes - if you are building a website for your client and they will want to add new content - don't choose Joomla, but go for WP
lol.
I have used wp as my primary basis for building sites, but each and every site has seldomly come out up to par. Of course, this is because of my wordpress skills and not because of the actual platform itself. I'm going to switch over to joomla though, as I hate the automatic-blog format of the wordpress platform.

Seriously guys , if you are a developer that knows his php ,mysql etc , Wordpress is just a framework -- for me atleast ... i take it get the plugins i need (why reinvent the wheel ?) ...improve on it according to my needs .. make my own plugins if needed ..
If theirs anything better that wordpress (for development purposes alone , not the usability aspect ) its drupal and EE, cuz they are real MVC's and not just a CMS ...
As far joomla is concerned -- i did use it back in 2010 and was not so impressed , quit in a week and never looked back --
So its mainly a personal preference what you are comfortable with .
The reason why wordpress is so popular is :
Anything in any field that can serve to the needs of an average person person will always win -- cuz thats where the most people are and wordpress did that pretty well..

Wordpress, HANDS DOWN. I tried Joomla when I first got into internet stuff, and there is a MUCH steeping learning curve with it.

I could confirm that wordpress is better for blog and Joomla for business/big project website (with design).
Presently the migration from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 is giving nightmare to developer but its present features are at least (even better) the same that others CMS such as drupal, etc...

Update: I tried Joomla today. I didn't know how to change the look of it, but then again I just installed it and followed the web install prompts.
The learning curve comments were true.
I've seen immaculate looking designer-quality sites built with expression engine though, going to install that one next!

Wordpress has always been my choice, much easier to work with templates and plugins.
i actually dont even suggest using a CMS, i highly recommend you learn how to code and take complete controll of the look and feel of your site. Once you get the hang of it it, and use tools like dreamweaver, youll see how powerfull it is to do sites from scratch... if you know photoshop and illustrator then your set
I'm an amateur in both, but here goes.... If you are building a site for a client and they will be changing text and photos, Wordpress is easier, and the customer has heard of it. Joomla was confusing, especially after something called k2 was added. I've worked in beautiful templates from Elegant Themes . com and Joomla Bamboo . com. Something new I've run across is Ultimatum Themes - it's a WP drag and drop system that is very flexible, and not too difficult to learn. The developer's license is only $57 from Mighty Deals. Why learn code? Two things important to a client...they can make changes on their own, and if their web site builder disappears, someone else can jump it.
