I wanna start a website based mainly off blogging but with forums and a gallery etc. I have used php fusion before but was wondering if anyone could speak on the benefits of using drupal or joomla.

+1 for Wordpress. Joomla & Drupal have a huge learning curve. Wordpress along with plugins and themes has all the things you are looking for. Besides, if you are stuck, there are tons of Wordpress experts out there. I will venture to guess more than Joomla or Drupal combined.

dont know why but im not a fan of wordpress 
. I tried joomla and it was crap. I figured since i had used php fusion before i would give that a shot but so much has changed it was awkward. I installed drupal amd so fam i have to say i love it but im one of the mostindecisive people in the world lol.

I have to agree with some of the other members. If you are starting fresh, Wordpress might be a better route for you. I have a lot of experience with Joomla and it isn't as easy to use as Wordpress and sometimes it can be quirky. There have been times when I have wanted to throw my computer against a wall when it erases a bunch of code that I have put into the WYSIWYG editor. That being said, there are a lot of cool things you can do with it.

well i have to say. Being the idiot i am lol i tried joomla first and hated it. Then because i have used fusion very successfully i thought id do something with that but i wasnt feeling it to well. I setup drupal and im loving it like a dream. Getting the hang of it pretty easily so far.

When I first started out I used to have plain vanilla HTML sites built by WYSIWYG HLML editors. then I tried both Joomla and Drupal CMS and then I finally got convinced the Wordpress is the most easiest and effective of them all. Wil all those themes and plugins you could achieve anything you want with WP.

all you guys were right lol. i ended up going through fusion, joomla, drupal, just to end up on wordpress. Thats what i get for not listening... And yes i tried 4 cms in less then a few hrs lol

I have used Joomla on two sites been using it for few years now find it good for what i need and use wordpress on another no doubt wordpress is the easy of the lot to learn and run

Ok, let's go...
1). For blog WP is the best - tons of plugins, themes - and most nulled
WP is easy to use and is better for SEO.
But:
WP use to many host resources - cpu time. If you are on shared host and you hit big traffig(i wish you) you will have problems with overuse of cpu resources. Another flaw of WP is to many http requests - your site will load slowly.
2). Joomla is great plathorm for websites - more staticly. Joomla loads the content faster against wp with less http requests. Joomla use less system resources against wp. Joomla is great for high traffic websites.
But:
Joomla has not to many plugins against WP. The user interface is not so user friendly and you need time to work good with Joomla. The default Joomla structure is not good for SEO - you will need plugins.
3). Drupal - i have only 2 sites on Drupal and another people moderate them. What i konw about Drupal:
- Great for big big big traffic.
- Not easy to customize.
- Old and less plugins.
OK, my advice:
- Get VPS - you will not worry about system resources. Install WP. Install cache and seo plugins. If you plan to have international traffic - use cdn network. Looks in G for good wp seo theme and you are ready!

Used to be a big fan of Joomla (well still am), but noticed how Wordpress has gain more populairity. It's not just for simple blogs anymore but you can create full functional websites with many plugins.

Joomla is the best CMS if you don't need a blog (wordpress). Period.
It really depends on what you want to do with it. i am focused on community type sites, so I use drupal on all but 1 or 2 of my sites. a relative wants a jewelry site, so i am likely to build her a wp so she can handle it. . I was hoping to build a marketplace site in Drupal, but their shopping carts cant really handle it the way I need, so I am using wordpress multiuser with marketpress, but everything else is drupal.

If you are not familiar with OOPS driven PHP, then go for Wordpress. If you are familiar, then I recommend using framework. I personally prefer Yii as my framework because of the CRUD code generation thingy. Coming to Joomla / Drupal, Don't go for Joomla, is it is lacking proper documentation. Going for Drupal is good, but remember that it is much more harder to code than you think...
