I think a big point of confusion is that people often don’t know where you are based and so assuming a buyer has the first clue what they are even talking about, them throwing an offer is often just at best an assumption of the relative values of the countries two currencies.
I mean if you’ve got some exclusive service then fine, it doesn’t matter where in the world you even are, you can charge whatever the hell you like but if i’ve got two people in two seperate countries with more or less equal skill and ability which is the case in many fields these days in the age of global internet, then if they are bothed priced equally too, then naturally i’d opt for the seller that I know is based in a higher tier country. Not only because it often affords a higher sense of transparency and accountability in many important things that i’m used to but even more importantly because, all else being equal, paying tier 2 and 3 sellers tier 1 priced for no reason other than there expectations here when you’ve got an equivalent tier 1 alternative availble just devalues your pound, or dollar or whatever ie you’re not getting money’s worth ie you’re getting ripped off.
Like i’m not going to name names here to avoid bias but sellers in some countries here often seem to be worse for things like this than others but i’ve been in situations where i’m dealing with them, even for simple things like outsourcing basic graphic design work based on quotes given by (their) local referrers and the moment they realise they’re dealing with international buyer talking pounds, dollars, euoros they just vamp up the markup to NYC levels. And i’m just like ummmm no, that’s not how it works - show me you’re paying like five and a half thousand USD per month like you would be even for a shitty second floor studio apartment in Hell’s Kitchen and a bare minimum of a hundred dollars a week just for bare essential groceries like you would if you lived there if you’re expecting that kind of money and i’ll gladly send you the quoted amount in a lump sum right now lol. I mean you could literally rent a decent three or four bedroom apartment in some upmarket towns and cities in some countries for as much as you would just about expect to pay sufficently just for grocery shopping in other towns and cities around the world.
Probably not the most popular opinion here but i’m just being honest about what I feel is common sense to me, professionally speaking.
That being said, if someone in lower tier countries undercuts their indirect overseas competitors by lowering prices to give a fair deal economically speaking, then more power them and yeah, I think opting for them would be a no-brainer in that case.
