On investigation, I don't think this is the case. If it was character spun the resulting article should be flagged in word spell check, but they aren't.

I've written for iWriter, the money they pay at the lowest tier per article... Terrible. I'm not surprised you have writers there using blackhat methods to milk every penny they can.
Unfortunately, if you pay pennies per article, expect to get articles that are worth pennies. Now you'll know you need to be vigilant with iWriter articles, but that should be a given with ultra-low-price services. Good luck in the future.

Yeah, platforms like Textbroker / iWriter have their pros and cons. You need to realize that the company just set up the platform and is there to make sure it's working. There's thousands of writers running through there at any time, so it's rather impossible for them to keep tabs on all of them. So, you'll get writers coming in looking to make a quick buck and leave before they're caught. Happens all the time. That's why, when you find a good one....you gotta note their name so you can hire them again in the future.
Also - I believe Copyscape only checks content that is currently indexed on the search engines. There's countless active websites that aren't indexed, or reside in the supplemental index. If the scam writer is grabbing their seed content from unindexed sites...that could be the reason Copyscape isn't finding a match.

I don't particularly mind a badly written article, I have accepted plenty in the past, at least they are more likely to be unique. Afterall, it's only ever for a pbn.
I'm more surprised at the prevalence of the situation.
Fair enough the example I showed was a 3 star fly by night, but I ended up having to flag a 4.2 star writer I had used a couple of times.
Anyone using the platform is in with a very good chance of receiving non unique articles.
I'm no stranger to the platform, having spent well over $400 dollars over the past few years.
Sometimes I want a cheap article to fill a web 2.0 or Pbn, other times I want something more substantial. I've had duplicate content for both low tier and premium tiers. So saying I need to be more careful about my writers is not really an excuse. I had thought I was careful and wouldn't have looked into it more if I hadn't received the same article multiple times.
I challenge anyone to request an article and manually check the content, I'm sure there's at least a 50% chance of duplicate content, even if premium tiers are chosen
