Whether blackhat or whitehat, It's time I start learning. I'm on SEOMoz right now, as it's the only resource I know of. My question is: What resources, websites, video guides, books, etc would you recommend me to check out to start learning SEO?

You're on the best forum.

Ask any question in the search bar, and you will find your answer.

Well I'm not even sure what to ask.. I'm just looking for books or something for total beginners.

The SEOmoz beginner's guide is the perfect place to start. Look up anything you don't understand (backlinks, page rank, domain authority, etc) and don't get frustrated when you mix all of them up and forget half of what you read. It takes time to get it all straight when you're starting from scratch.

My advice is to learn the lingo- there is a lot of it in SEO. Also, start with onpage SEO (it's the easiest to understand). Figure out what makes a page SEO friendly- what google puts weight on as far as the title tag, meta description, h1s, h2s, URL structure, and keyword density throughout all of these components.

However, the majority of SEO (and what google values) is done offpage. This means backlinks, or what pages/domains are linking to you and how they're doing it.

Just remember there's a reason why people get paid a lot of money to do SEO for the big brands. There's a lot to know, and not many people actually know how to do it correctly, but there's also enough people on the internet that even total noobs can make money doing it, so don't give up!

This site is one of the best resources, I like seomoz too, and other seo blogs.. but I would recommend just using google to search this site because the search feature isn't the greatest (as with most sites).

Try also to look for torrents that are related to internet marketing or SEO. I have learned a lot of SEO that way.
SEOMoz is definitely a good place to start, althought they don't have a lot of information on blackhat seo.

I think it would be best to start reading articles online about SEO. However, since Google will give you numerous search results about it, then it might be best to read them from article directories such as ezinearticles, goarticles and the likes.. :) hope this will help

I'm in the same situation, just started out in seo/marketing recently. Hope I will manage to understand it and make money from it. So far i'm a bit overwhelmed with the information. Is like for every question I have, I get one answer and 100 other questions and options. It's crazy.

Good luck to you and all the newbies like us

You are by far in the best forum and on the right track. I am also learning. Good luck with your journey.
