Here's an even better question... i have a tenant who broke lots of shit this past month alone. They have a dog that shits in my garden on the regular, and sometimes they will arbitrarily "lower their rent rate" and name services that were missing that month...
Note - rent in most cases covers 4 walls, water, power and heat... anything more that is a courtesy.
What do you guys think i should do with them...
This seems like a better question than "why should i let my landlord talk down to me because I'm an idiot".
In fact... lets change up this thread to "what's the worst situation you have going on now that trumps the OP"
My roommate seriously annoys me. We are not friends or associates; only roommates and I don't want to associate with her much (which is fine because I like being in my room).
I asked her yesterday to call maintenance to get my electric outlet fixed, it's not working. I cannot call maintenance myself because I am not on the lease, nor do I want to be. So her and her husband were like "Oh do you want to test it out with our nightlamp"... ?
WTF. I know they are trying to be nice but I am not a moron. I already tested it out with various devices before asking her to call maintenance to ensure that the problem was with the outlet and not the electronic product. I am not a freakin moron! I feel so insulted!
They called maintenance. However I am so angry that they assumed I didn't test it myself. Should I confront them?
I really want to tell them "Look, I am not a moron. I tested the outlet before asking you. Why would you think that I didn't test it first? "
OR should I let it go?
from what you typed, it looks like you implied you only tested it with the one device
I'm a prideful person, and in this situation, I find it almost hilarious that you're insulted enough to still be thinking about it. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just saying that of all the problems in the world that people have to be worrying about, this isn't even worth the time it takes to respond to this message.
99% of human interreaction is one-offs. If you were annoyed at her assumption that you didn't test the outlet properly, you could've sarcastically said something like:
"...Really? I wouldn't have asked you to phone maintenance I hadn't already checked."
But now that it's all over, it's time to move on and quit thinking about it. You lost the chance to gracefully make a snide retort at her lack of faith in your intelligence--now you would just look pathetic if you brought it back up.
The only person who has the power to make you feel anger is yourself--so whenever you get angry, ask yourself if it's really worth the effort. If it blows up in your face, the only person who looks stupid is going to be you.![]()
Why didn't you write about this on your blog ????
Am sure you would have had tons of traffic swarming in to read this.
lmao!!
I didn't have time to read all the replies in this thread, but based on you're first post it seems like your overreacting.
It probably isn't so much that they somehow question you're abilities as much as just the first thing that comes to mind is to test the thing out.
If every time I ever suggested a way for someone to test something out they got defensive about me thinking they're stupid, I would have lost a lot of friends by now. LOL. I can't even put an estimate on the number of times in my life that I've retested something that someone else already tested themselves. I can't make a guess on how many times the same thing happened in reverse either. I've never taken it personally and neither do any of my friends.
Actually there have been a few times when people have been hypersensitive about things like that, and in those cases the people don't last a long time around me. Not because I'm a jerk or anything, I'm really a very nice guy, but because I don't like to constantly deal with other peoples insecurities.
So unless there's just a whole lot of other things that annoy you as well, I wouldn't worry about it.
It doesn't sound like that big a deal. :cool2:
You're on the right path...to become an annoyingly uptight and whiny individual. I would know because my mom gets upset over the stupidest shit. Dog's been outside playing for a while and my mom wants her to come inside? If she opens the door and the dog takes more than 5 seconds to come inside, she gets all sorts of psycho and pissed off and yelling and whining. Why? I have no effing clue. That's just one of her many frequent episodes.
I work in retail, and if I went off on a customer every time I thought they did something of lesser intelligence, like asking where the printer ink is at when they're standing in the printer ink section, or asking "Is that mine?" in regard to an item they purchased five seconds beforehand, I would probably be out of a job. So seriously, learn to let the little things go. You should feel lucky that the biggest thing on your mind is how someone tried to offer you help and your own ego and self-centered manner twisted it into some insult to your intelligence. I am only 18 and have much more pressing issues to think about. I can only imagine how young you must be.
