I've just been reading this thread, just as I'm skipping school because I didn't study for today.

Now I'm not here to talk about how I can't do these things and repeat myself over and over again like OP from that thread basically did, because I AM actively making changes to my life (I eat very healthy, workout etc.)

But when it comes to doing basically anything that is considered productive (school, IM etc.) I can literally never start and if I do I give up very fast... It's quite bad, I crashed my car more than a month ago and me and my dad took all the good parts off for me to sell (enough profit for the same car again) BUT I CAN'T FUCKING GET TO SELLING THEM, I HAVE NO ACTUAL WILL TO DO SO

I am writing this because OP from the mentioned thread talked about OCD, depression and mental illness and honestly this scared me.
I'm 19, so I'm a millennial, a generation fucked up by technology, like he said, I've also been on the computer my whole life, I have friends, but only people that are around me because they have no choice (schoolmates or people at other activities) because I'm too lazy to get out. I have no problems with girls though.

The replies to his thread did inspire me, however I want to know what you guys think is the bigger reason for this: Addiction to technology and reading unimportant information on the internet or is this actually depression?

Until I read the replies on that thread, I always thought that everyone was like me, at least sometimes...

Procrastination is the worst. I battle with it with every new project. I don't like to start new things, because it's hard/not comfortable doing new things.
But there are a few things that gets me pumped. You know these luxurious Instagram accounts with sports Cars, Rolex watches, mansions etc? I say to myself, if I procrastinate, then I will never make it there. You just have to do it. The sooner the better.
I'm now 29. From 20 to 25 all I did was work 9 to 5 and I thought life is going to become better if I just work really hard at my job, the Boss is going to reward me and life is going to be great. Boy I was wrong. No one is interested in your success, only you yourself. At 25 I started my first real business with vending machines, sold it 1,5 years later. Then went on to other businesses, and found success in IM 2 years ago. Now I just want to scale my businesses, and every month is an adventure of trying to earn more and more.

You'll get there, but you must understand that your life will be boring and without meaning if you won't start doing things. Time is the most important asset in this life.

Here are some great quotes that are on the wall by my computer by Jim Rohn.

"Days are expensive. When you spend a day you have one less day to spend. So make sure you spend each one wisely."

"If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary"

"If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much."

You're looking for any and all reasons to not do something and you're looking at BHW to tell you that you're right. STOP LOOKING FOR A FUCKING EXCUSE AND JUST DO IT. I've made a shit ton of mistakes but it's not because of my generation or because of any bad advice, it's because I made the wrong decisions. Everyone has a mental illness these days....................... Oh, wait, no they fucking don't. It's just a convenient excuse.

I'll tell you one thing that will remain true forever. No one gives a fuck about what you end up being in life so you might as well start as early as you can doing what you want.

I never said that I'm depressed or that my generation is the fault for this, however our generation is addicted to instant gratification from basically the start of our lives, where our brains were still developing (social media, porn, parents being too nice etc.)... These are true facts and I'm doing everything to rewire my brain right now. And I'm not trying to look for a reason to not do things but when I really want to do them, I don't find the will to do it.

But thanks for the reply, the last sentence really put some thought into me!

Thank you for your reply, it's nice hearing other people that were going through the same things and turned their life around. Best of luck with everything!

Easy to bring about a turn in your life!

    The Mantra:
You Do What You Don't Do! :D

    Simple, isn't it?!

You go to school, you do your homework, you go out and discover how it feels to take a walk around, watch around, feel around, do fun, meet new people, talk a few moments with them,...and you might wonder what do I talk about? ell, say isn't the day so good, the air so cool, the flowers so beautiful, the girls so hot...hahaha well don't say that last one aloud in your first meeting! You get the point. Watch some tutorial videos on how to say something nice in your first meetings.

And stay away from the poison as much as you can -- the internet, I mean. :)

I was away from my PC for more than 8 waking hours everyday recently! And really, those hours away from the PC were the most beautiful! I actually felt the Sun on my skin, talked with some real nice people, went to the market to buy groceries, yeh actually! Life is still good in the real world. Try it!

And not all from your generation have fucked up their lives online! They have used it to grow financially, to grow spiritually, to make real friends from far off lands, to learn new things, to learn and polish off old things, to watch moon and space missions, to see how other people re becoming successful...they have kept their minds and souls open, instead of becoming porn zombies, or screwing up scams and screwing up other lives, ...

OCD is a nice word nowadays. So convenient to use it to hide behind the tree of laziness! Just go out and see real people who've OCD, depression, mental illnesses, and other things that they cannot escape and cannot die so they get a release from the pains! Nah, most people here who say they have OCD and open threads to say how they are lazy and doing nothing, and are living off their dear ones by faking they have that mental emotional illness. Don't trust them, don't fall with them while they generate waves and loads of sympathies. They are cheating themselves, imho.

Just do a turnaround and change yourself! It's that simple... I suffer from depression, but the moment I'm aware of the sadness or the feel of loneliness, or that no one cares for me, I do a turnaround as quickly as I can. My favority place is in front of the mirror. There inside it is a person whom I tell, look at you idiot! You've everything you want to become! Your have legs and hands, a face that you can always love to see. even if the whole world doesn't! And, the fckng world exists because of you, because if you're dead, the world is dead also! A fact, isn't it?! :D

And yes, every night I go to sleep, I thank God, you can see Him as an intelligent all powerful energy field, for the whole of nice day I had, and then I go into a new dream world to be the prince charming there! lol. Even if the day was rank bad, I still cheat my God and myself in saying that the day was so wonderful...it really help to cheat yourself sometimes! Try it! hahahaha

And every morning, if I remember, I say God I give this day to you, and you're free to use it in anyway you feel is good for me...otherwise don't use it, I tell Him! I think He really want to bash me at that moment! But normally He doesn't, anyway so no harm in saying that to Him, I guess!

Well even if the day goes awful sometimes, I think that I am still going to say thank you to Him and praise myself for having the moment to rest, for the day, or forever! It too helps!

It's awesome to play around with yourself! Not the way some do with their hands though.), It's really a different thing. Try it someday!

Btw, why there no "e" in awful, and there is "e" in awesome after "w"?!

So, it's easy for me. May be it ill be easier for you! Try it and tell me after a week! And I tell you again, I really suffer from depression occasionally, that's very frequently! But every time I come out of it more positively than not...

Keep Smiling! Btw, see how you really feel if you really give a smile to yourself in the mirror, once in a while --every few moments! :)

OK, now begin doing the work which needs to be finished! Every second is important and many such seconds will make a life! Wonderful, happy, successful or not, it depends on how you use (most of) the units.

    P.S.:

And yes, every morning, and when I find time...i.e. when I am really lonely, I stand by my bedroom window which has a nice view of the little garden I have. There are trees of mango, chickoo (Sapota), jack-fruit, guava, Sandal, plants like roses, jasmine, Arabian jasmine (what lovely fragrance!), hibiscus, etc. I talk with them, actually. There are squirrels who fck my mornings with their unlimited nonsense talks with each others or their constant sex-calls to their opposite genders moron friends! lol.

Not really, I wake up at around 5, 5-30 every morning, and I am sure they all are in bed doing whatever! Well, I don't wake them up with my loud moaning, hehehehe, or my nonsense blabbering. I am proud of the difference between them and me though. :) But I do mental emotional chatting with all of them, and I don't know about them, but it really refreshes me a lot!

I love you so much. You probably have no idea who I am even if you knew the last time I spoke to you was under my old username, but I don't know of anyone else who pours as much emotion into replies as you. Welcome back, srb888. BHW needs more members like you.

I love you too, and even if I don't know who you really are! Anyway, I really like it around here! And that feeling brings out the emotions that are suppressed inside me! hahaha. Won't ask you that other name though. Let it be a wonderful past, if it was then, i.e. :) Or "very sorry", if I had hurt you then...

I live a cursed life, and the curse is: whomever I like, in the real world of course, they leave me...not the case online! I talk about real people, not my plants, trees, or my cute little squirrel friends.

Thanks mate! Your words soothe me! Made the difference...

You have 24 hours in the day, it's up to you how you're going to spend them. As the days pass, remember that those who don't procrastinate are in front of you and your dreams are behind you. Would you really waste each hour doing nothing when you can shape your lifestyle? Think of it as a Sims game, every decision you make has a consequence and that's how you develop. I suffered from depression, didn't work for months, stopped going out with friends, stopped meeting with the family and for what reason? Because I was searching for happiness somewhere else, while it was around me all along. You have all the resources you need, I'm sure, you just need the right mindset to start. Jot down your daily chores and start doing them one by one. As you cross out the tasks one by one, the motivation will come by itself :)

There are loads of factors to this, as was stated in that previous thread, which of course were ignored or vigorously shut down to serve different kinds of needs and replaced with inspirational bursts of suggestions instead, not that there's anything wrong with that.

But to come back to the question at hand, I think it's not the addiction to technology, not the reading of unimportant information over the internet nor depression - these seem to be just the effects of the causes/reasons, which there are many.

So what are the causes, then? Granted, I can't spot all of them, not even one single good one for that matter, but merely spotting any one such cause can still give associative insights to the reasons at whole.

For example, probably the easiest to understand right now due to the state of things are the many things over the internet that are designed to manipulate with the consumer psychologically. Think of the many ways brands try to gain people's attention for as long as possible. From the consumer's perspective, everything they need is brought to them on a silver plate, many of their needs and more are served on it just like that. Add to that the many more ways a person is manipulated with for various other reasons by various other manipulators and you'll end up with a "unique" individual, shaped by genetics and environmental influences.

And now that person wants to change who they've become. Neither awareness of that nor the change can be brought forth overnight.

But people are telling them that they've only got 24 hours in a day, that life is short, that this and that... Some people break under the pressure (lower the expectations), others get lucky (lucky bastard), some get too lucky (shit hit the fan) and end up with a whole new set of problems. Good times ahead.

Honestly the best advice is just set small achievable goals. Complete one goal or "step" each day. Before you know it all those small actions will add up and you'll have something nice to show for it.

The easiest way I have found out to avoid procrastination is to put yourself in a pressure situation where you MUST get it done or your will not survive. It could be changing your country, it could be quitting your job.

I don't know your mindset about psychedelics but a few months ago when I tried psilocybin mushrooms, this was the exact image that came to my head. If you didn't know, tryptamines light up our whole brain and we are able to interact with our subconsciousness, I asked myself: why am I so unproductive? Why am I so lazy? How do I achieve the things that I want? What I saw/thought about with my eyes closed was myself running in the wild, ripping shit apart because it was the only way to survive, I understood the message, I needed to put myself into danger to pull myself out of it again. And that's exactly what happened without me asking for it when I crashed my car and now I'm completely out of money, I'm already in danger, but now I need to get myself out of it.

Sorry for the long reply, it just really fascinates me that this might be the thing that changes me. Thanks so much for your reply!

I don't think you have anything to worry about man. I'm a huge procrastinator, and so are many of the people I work with. Nobody ever wants to work on something they hate. The problem is most people convince themselves that they have to do it... because they HAVE to. More often than not, successful and influential people realize early on that they don't see the point in doing things they hate. It makes them different and it's why most people find them odd at first.

One of my buddies just recently made his first million, but it took him until he was 35 and discovered he loved developing games. Had no professional training, he was a procrastinator most of his life... but something clicked when he found games. He went from doing random things here and there, to working on games 24/7.

Maybe this has nothing to do with what you're asking... all I'm saying is that when you find that thing that you're passionate about, you wont ever wanna stop doing it. You'll be very proactive because you'll have a REASON to do it. Until then, just enjoy doing what you love whatever it may be. Sometimes it takes a while to find it, sometimes you find it over night... but don't beat yourself up for it is all I'm saying.

    Hope this helps...
