Hey guys, I have an instagram account with 1000 followers and 1200 following.

I thought to follow only until I arrive at 10k. My question is: if you are following a lot of people, you have less chanche to be followed ?

Users look at this?

Because if not I can go to 10k and after that unfollow all. Or I have to keep followers higher then following?

You can't have more than 7,500 followings. It's an Instagram limitation.

I don't mean that. I mean, if you are following too much users like (1000+), the page don't become suspicious? I see top pages with only 50 following max

I mean is better to follow and unfollow the same day, or follow massively until 7k following and unfollow all after?

It isn't the best idea to follow and unfollow during the same day. Instagram only allows so many actions per hour depending on the age of your account. So if your actions is 50, you should hypothetically only follow 50 people an hour with only up to 400-500 a day starting off until you reach 7500 followers. Once you reach 7500 followers, give your account a 24-38 hour rest and then start unfollowing at 50 people an hour. If you do 500 a day that should be 15 days of unfollowing. Then give your account a break for 24-38 hours and start the process all over again.

But to also answer your question, yes later down the road the less followers you have the more legit your account will look and the more authority it will have. But in the mean time don't worry about that, just worry about getting followers.

@OP, from my testing (on my branded accounts only), I've had a better following rate when I keep below it 500.

No one (expect Paper) got your question lol

Yes, people definitely look at followings.

1k followers, 2k following => "that users just got his followers by following others"
1k followers, 112 following => "people follow that user without being followed by him - he must have interesting content"

I try to ALWAYS keep my followings below 1k (<150 is best however thats impossible when you are doing follow/unfollow), so yeah better follow & unfollow the same day.

The general census says your following count should be less than your follower counts. Having more following than followers suggests that you are desperate.

But, it could just numbers and it don't mean crap to some.

It does. This is discussed here every day. You better have a good reason to follow 7000 people, cuz you won't be paying attention to 1% of that many posts. The key is : make it look natural! Folks follow 2000 people in a day, now is that supposed to look ok? I mean nobody follows 2000 people unless they spend 30 hours a day on the PC simply reading instagram.
