Is your Affiliate site still Ranking? If so, how?

I am convinced that the Panda updates are dropping weight to sites that have affiliate links. One of my sites has completely dropped off the charts and as soon as I removed some affiliate links, came back.

I thought about doing multiple redirects to mask links, but google would obviously figure that one out.

If you still have an affiliate site, what are you doing to overcome looking like an affiliate site?

i can see plenty of sites which have been ranking post panda, not mine but others so nothing to do with panda.
 
Add more content, at least 600+ words per page.

Make sure the links are definitely masked.

I'm not seeing any major problems with aff sites, I just think it's a minor algo shuffle.
 
I would try adding more content to your sites, so the site looks to be helping the user out and not look like your just in it for the money.

Also i would try and cloak your affiliate link :)
 
My main online income comes from cashburners lately since i dropped my seo services due to lack of time.

I changed practically everything in the standard templates like the text obviously, name of images, tags etc etc... A couple of sites with only a rewritten text dropped several pages but those other sites regained their normal rank and sometimes even better.

I lost quite a few of the competition though :D
 
Got my aff site sandboxed. I have redirected the aff links. I don't think this is the reason I've been penalised. My competitors are safe and sound and obviously the problem is my backlinking stategy. In my opinion it is just a coincidence.
 
Cloaking aff links and building high PR quality backlinks, Also alot of social bookmarking and social media.
 
Yes, it was sandboxed for 2 months but last week it bounced back and even gained a spot. :p

I'm guessing it's because all my pages are unique and not found anywhere else.
 
My affiliate sites droped a bit too round 12 okt. They all have unique content with at least 500 word articles. I ordered a social bookmarking page here on BHW and 3 days later it was one spot higher then the original spot. Did the same with 2 other sites of mine and they too came back to their original position.

So I guess that social media and bookmarking became more important. Can anyone confirm this?
 
I have a ton of aff sites with direct links still ranking. Mainly Amazon sites. The problem you're having is more likely with crappy links. Blog comments/forum posts/forum profiles/web 2.0/ that junk is all worthless. If your links are coming from those places, you won't maintain rankings long.
 
Its strange...I've got a couple affiliate sites still ranking....and others have fallen off the map entirely.

One site for example is a larger review type of site. I like to experiment so I hit it hard with S-box and similar tools.

My rankings have fluctuated like crazy for close to a year. I'll be at the top of the rankings for a week or two, and drop off the map entirely for a while. Then, things will bounce back again.

Have you seen the thread where I surveyed people that were negatively affected by the recent Panda update? I'm not sure if Affiliate sites are the underlying cause of the drop in rankings. I still see Affiliate sites well positioned in the SERPs.
 
mine is still ranking. WHY? because it's EMD
 
Shouldn't be caused by aff links cos a few sites rank 1-3 on competitive keywords with direct CB aff links in it.
 
I make good money with affiliate sites, but my affilate store isn't part of the SEO chain. I make blogs with unique content, then the unique content leads them to my affiliate store (but not with a link). I use a method to hide my link from Google, as far as Google is concerned my affiliate-provided store doesn't even exist.
 
Google won't punish you for being an affiliate site - as long as you don't take the piss. If you create a useful site and the affiliate links and relevant then there is no reason for you to be punished.

That pretty much sums it up.

As long as your site is useful for your visitors, and your content-to-ad ration isn't horrible, you should be fine.
