It might not be as important anymore as it used to be years ago, but yes, even today it is recommended!

Sitemap.xml is still important for your website because this is the best way for Google to index your site and because of this your site will easily be crawled by Google. Don't disregard basic SEO this can also help your site's ranking.

It's one of the first things I do after setting up wordpress on a new site. Yes, Google will find you anyway, however I would rather be found quickly, and in my experience it helps you get indexed faster.

XML Sitemap is needed for Search Engines. We want to frequently update it. And submit it in a Google webmaster tool and Googlebot will crawl your site easily. For wordpress, i'm using "YOAST" plugin. And for other i am using "xml-sitemaps" site (Free XML sitemap generator) its only for limited pages. Hope it will helps.

Sitemap is neither needed nor important for most sites. Googlebot has no problems in spidering sites with easy structures.

The only time I would suggest using it would be if you ran a site with multiple cms. That however, would be pretty damn challenging.

It's not true Google will index all items listed on your sitemap.

Yes Yoast work but best is manually submitting the site, at least you can be sure thats its done successfully.

I use SEO Ultimate (seo plugin) combined with Google XML Sitemaps plugin on most of my sites, however if you use YOAST's SEO plugin, it has a built-in sitemap generator.

I see it as a important file to have. I will always ensure that I have a sitemap uploaded and ready to be submitted before going live.

I'd suggest use it may be worse, without sitemap.

google still recommends to use XML sitemaps. It helps to notify google crawlers about your pages in your website.
