Its alright, although it can be improved massively by using Yoast's plugin.

Here is a very detailed blog post for you to work through.

You can really optimize your articles with WP.

WP has great developer support and there are tons of plugins for getting good SEO scre.

Some of them are Easy WP SEO,Yoast, etc

You didn't mentioned if you are asking for on-page SEO or off-page SEO. WP is the best script I have seen till now but still for off-page seo you have to do that out of WP.
just my two cents

Yes dear you can make it.You can optimize wordpress site in a efficent way with the help of plugins.

wordpress is very friendly for seo, you could get what you need, if you have enough content to create pages for many longtails keywords.

Wordpress is just one of many CMS available for free. There are many paid one too.

It doesnt matter how you build your website. You can make it a simple static html with no php or anything else there and rank it #1 if you do your job.

Using a CMS has no benefits on its own, while we are talking about ranking. More over - its worse compared to plain html sites, because its a little bit slower - it takes time and power to compose a dynamic site.

Most webmasters use CSM because others do it, and its easy, really easy to built a site with no knowledge. Then they load it with SEO plugins and wonder why the site is not on page one.

One of the main benefits of using CMS is scheduled posts - you can write or order 100s articles and schedule them over the next year, so you get a fresh site with new content published daily on autopilot. In this way you can work on many websites simultaneously.

According to your question - wordpress does not have much related to SEO at all. Your website's seo depends on the theme you use and plugins.

If you use a good theme and plugins, or make all changes yourself with no plugins, then you can end up with the best option ever.

Yes it is good for SEO. these are the reasons why

  1. WordPress is free - You still need to get a domain but you don't need to pay a web developer thousands of dollars to create a site for you. This week I heard about a site that was made that cost $100K and it was not optimized well for search engines!

  2. Meta Tags and XML Sitemap - WordPress has plugins and widgets that will simplify the SEO process of creating meta tags and XML sitemaps for search engines.
  3. Pings Google - When you create new content, Google likes this. I remember once literally seconds after I published a new post that it was already indexed in Google. (That is pretty amazing!)
  4. Permalinks can be keyword enabled - Each post that you write can be constructed with your keyword phrases for SEO tactics.
  5. Social Media, Backlinking, Pingback, Trackbacks - Links and badges can be added to further build backlinks and added traffic. Pingbacks and Trackbacks help with creating links between sites.

It's great already and you don't need these plugins. I never use any of them.
