Is Wordpress really the way to go?

Just use it. It is undeniably the best CMS out there.

Don't worry too much about technical stuff, remember that your #1 goal is to make money, make more money, and make some more money.

Wordpress is really great for newbies. With some time and effort, you'll be able to build professional looking sites with lots of functionalities easily with very little coding or no coding at all.

There is alot of reason why WP is the way to go. Just google it. And see it for yourself.

I could easily deny this. A thorough understanding of a more powerful CMS such as Joomla and WordPress looks like a fluffy little baby bunny rabbit with the cutest little button nose you ever seen.

Joomla is far more versatile, can WordPress be adapted to do half of what Joomla is built to do? Perhaps. My lawnmower has wheels and drives, but I don't take it to work in the morning.. Even though I could duct tape a windshield and doors on it.

Joomla is far more secure. If you don't keep an eye on your WordPress site, it can get spammed to death, malicious injections (bad, bad, bad!! Imagine you're in the SERPs getting clicks and one day Google labels your site as malicious.) I just went through this with a bunch of WP installs and the timthumb exploit.

Joomla is more stable. I have heard some bad things about WordPress in high traffic environments. Bottom line is, WordPress is a blog. Not a CMS. Yet.

Don't get me wrong, WP is awesome and I use it every chance I get. Setup is a snap, templates are very nice, lots of extensions and modifications are easy. SEO is out of the box... Pretty good; getting rid of the category base is important for fixing it's out of the box URL structure. If you're planning to blog, I would also recommend fixing it's "Next/Prev" post links so that instead of them being titled "Next Post," they use the title of the post they link to.

Both of these issues are cleared up with plugins in a matter of minutes, but big deals IMO.

Joomla is far more powerful, though. SEO takes a bit more to setup and it's not user friendly like WordPress. If you haven't been using Joomla for years, don't plan on making anything good with it; but if you have, it canNOT be f-ed with. WP isn't even a close comparison. Not even distant. Not in the same league.

It's easy to use, friendly and super flexible. The search engines also like it.

But it is not secure. If you need a 99% secure site then pure PHP or html is the only way.

Yeah i can highly recommend wordpress! It is easy, fast indexation, lots of google love, and very good for noobs!

Wordpress is awesome

Well, in spite of the rave reviews that everyone gives to wordpress, you gotta realize that it is quite a pain in the ass! I love WP for its plugins, themes etc and user friendliness, but it can be a terrible pain for making an advanced website.

Firstly, WP is dependent on the version of PHP used by your hosting provider, and some hosting put such crap up there that your site can get really wacky.

Secondly, I find html/php so much better to make an expansive website, while WP limits your capabilities to the limitations of the theme/php version etc.

Thirdly, WP has a rich text editor that is plain stupid. For example, you could get one style of the h1 tag on one page, another style in another page and so on.

I still work work on wordpress, but it's more out of compulsion rather than choice.

I tried BloGEngine for a while just to switch it up. That lasted about a week. It's way behind in terms of ease.

With a few tweaks and plugins, WordPress becomes probably the most SEO-friendly content management system available.

I would probably NOT use WP for an e-commerce site, but for just about everything else it's great.

In my opinion, yes, because it is great for beginners, and it has a wide range of plugins t make your job a whole lot easier.

Worpress is just easy. It's a quick learning curve and relatively easy to setup. Plus you get access to tons of templates and plugins. AND if you take the time to learn you can customize it yourself.

Yeah, WP is great for authors and users, but from developers view (hate every moment i've spent customizing it) it's one of the largest crap pile of bloated spaghetti code.

WordPress is great. Very simple to use and anything you do need is just a few clicks away.

I wouldn't even know where I'd be without Wordpress.

Wordpress was definitely created by God himself.

Wordpress is extremely easy to use, I can spin up a new blog in minutes if I need to. But, if I were to set up something more complex and wanted a deeper level of control I would probably write something in .NET.

If I knew PHP better then I might feel differently though.

WP is a breeze to work with; but I still use static sites for clients... mainly becasue of the ranking and minimal updating. For clients, I do a static 4 page site and then add a WP in a sub domain so they can add content whenever they want. For some reason, the static sites seem to stick in the rankings more than WP... Especially if you don't update all the time.
