is wordpress hard to learn?

I just paid $120 for a Wordpress course to learn. Although, I know a little bit of it...

But I want to know everything I need to know about it... so that I can start creating my own websites, and maybe do some real freelance work. How long would it take for someone to learn all the ropes of Wordpress?

My friend just took a course to learn how to build apps... he learned in about 3 weeks. He has made $350 this week from freelancing for the local businesses around the neighborhood. I am getting motivated from his efforts...

What do you want to learn?

Building sites with WP is easy and intuitive, coding plugins and customizing stuff under the hood not so.

So it all depends!

On Google are thousands of free tutorials...

On-Topic: Yes and No... Depends of what level you will want to work. For a resonable freelancer, you will need to know basics:
-WordPress best configurations;
-How to install&setup&customize a theme (free&premium);
-A bit of .css, .php and .html;
-What are the plugins and how to use them in your website advantages;
-A bit of SEO ( like I said early, depends of your wished level );
-A bit of IM (Social Media Marketing, online-offline marketing );
-A bit about hosting types, how to install wordpress, what type of hosting is fit for your/your client website, etc.

There are a lot of other tips, but you'll must to find them.

The most important: USE YOUR CREATIVITY :)
 
Not so hard when there are so much resources online, best of luck.

There is a UDEMY discount code thread with free tutorials on wordpress, also search "wordpress tutorial" using the search bar will give you threads on the same thing you are looking for.

There is nothing to learn, just install it and use it :D


But if you want to learn how to create plugins, how to code and modify templates etc. then it might take some effort.

Hopefully, I learn all the coding and stuff in this course. What has scared me away from web designing was dreamweaver... I have never ran into a software or program that literally makes you hate every aspect of web designing. I just hope wordpress isn't as hard.
 
Waste of $120, Youtube has everything you need. 5-6 hours spent there will get you started. Best way to learn is to get stuck in for a weekend...built a few sites...chop and change themes...test a few plugins.

The amount of users that Wordpress has means there is literally not one problem you will face that has not been addressed before. So if you need to work out how to move a post to the left hand side etc for any particular theme..google the exact question and you will find a discussion about it on the wordpress forum.

Nothing is hard to learn as you long as you have passion for what you're doing. If you're learning WP just for the sake of making money then forget learning it and make a business out of it. You gotta have an aesthetic sense and have a mind of many minds to make a great user friendly website.

Uh you should of saved your $120.00...Wordpress is the most user friendly CMS I've ever come across. If anything, take some courses in HTML, PHP, and CSS (better yet, download them)...then you can really take full advantage of your WP site. My fking mom can use wordpress...no lie.

Depends what do you want to learn.
If you want to learn Wordpress and play with others premium themes and plugins then it is very easy.
If you want to build you own themes and plugins from scratch then you have to put some hard work on it because it is not so easy.
 
OP Wordpress codex is enough to learn everything about Wordpress. There are lots of public tutorials available on many websites and also on youtube. So I think you wasted that money. If you want to learn all the functions, then use an IDE like netbeans and make a project. That way, you will get hints on each and every function you can use.

Well, I can still get my money back because I haven't started yet... I just thought that an actual instructor (1+1) could give me better direction... However, maybe the Youtube tutorials could work.

Do you have your wordpress installed yet? I suggest you do that first, check out the admin, add some pages and posts, go through the menus, change a template a few times (you can do that directly from admin of upload it manually, try it both ways), try adding some plugins (same drill as templates), also it is a good thing to learn how to handle media files in wordpress, so install some gallery plugin (I suggest nextgen) and play with it, learn how to add those shorttags (or whatever they call it) into posts and pages.....that should last you for the first weekend, enjoy :-)
 
OP, you just wasted $120. WordPress is very easy to learn and even if you wanted a course, you could find free ones on YouTube/Udemy.
 
as i am using all my website on WordPress platform
i am running article site, business site, game site etc.
an i think WordPress is really very easy to use.
