Is WordPress a good option for eCommerce based on security?

I want to know if WordPress is a good option for an eCommerce store I want to put together. I want to make sure that security is not an issue. I was thinking about going with Shopify as the other option. It an ecommerce store that I will be selling my own products from. Would love to hear everyones take on this.
