I've been testing some websites with no backlinks at all, just on-page SEO, high-quality content, and internal linking. Unexpectedly, some pages are trapped on page 2 or 3, while others are ranking rather well. I want to know if anyone is experiencing long-term benefits from White Hat SEO alone, without link building. Or will backlinks still be the most important factor in 2025? I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences.

There is no point in doing seo without making backlinks. Other factors also determine ranking but most important factor are backlinks.

Good on page SEO, strong content, and internal linking can get certain pages to rank, but in 2025 backlinks are still a key factor for competitive terms. In the long run, the best results usually come from combining high quality content with solid link building.

Good content and on-page SEO help, but backlinks still matter a lot for ranking.

Quality content and solid on-page SEO can win visibility, but backlinks are still the spark that turns rankings into authority.

White-hat SEO can work alone, but backlinks still make a big difference in 2025. Great content and structure can rank mid-tier keywords, but for competitive terms, authority links are still the deciding factor.

If you're alone in that specific market, then it might be possible. Otherwise, you need to implement everything along with the backlinks activities.

The rules of backlinks have changed altogether. Backlinks are still trusted SEO signals but what changed is the way they are earned and the way they are qualified

White Hat SEO works better now, but backlinks still act as the main trust signal Google relies on.

White Hat SEO can still work without backlinks, especially for low competition or niche keywords. Strong content structure, topical depth, and internal linking can push pages pretty far. But backlinks are still the authority signal that separates page 2 from page 1.

In 2025, Google’s leaning more on overall site quality and user engagement, but links still matter for long-term growth. If you combine solid on-page SEO with a few natural, relevant backlinks, that’s usually the winning balance.

No .. Backlinks matter. They are kind of trust signals for google to know that you have useful information related to that particular topic or niche you are writing about.

Yes — White Hat SEO can still be powerful without backlinks in 2025 if your content truly satisfies user intent. With Google’s focus on E-E-A-T and helpful content, high-quality, well-optimized pages can rank through strong on-page SEO, topical authority, and user engagement — but backlinks still accelerate growth and trust.

Authority (based on links basically) is the core factor for ranking and has been the case for decades,
You still can rank for keywords & niches with no to little competition, but you can't solely rely on "good content" to compete,
So, unless you have some really good or/and unique content/website/page(s) that really stands out, you have to rely on links & build authority to rank

Yeah, white hat SEO can still work well if your content is strong and user-focused. But backlinks still give that extra push - they help Google trust your site faster. A mix of both usually works best.

That's a great point. On-page SEO and good content can definitely get you far, especially since Google is putting more and more emphasis on helpful content and user intent. But backlinks are still very important for moving pages from page 2 to page 1. A balanced approach with strong on-page optimization, topical authority, and a few high-quality backlinks looks like it will work best in the long run in 2025.

Good content and on-page can rank, but backlinks still make the biggest difference once you hit that page 2 wall.

Backlinks matter a lot and still seem to be important for long term rankings.

White-hat SEO alone can get you decent results, especially for low-competition terms, but backlinks still carry weight in 2025. Strong content and structure help, yet authority links remain key for breaking past page 2.

I’ve noticed similar patterns. Pure white-hat SEO — good content, strong on-page optimization, and smart internal linking — can sometimes get pages to rank decently, especially for low-competition or long-tail keywords. But in most competitive niches, backlinks still make a noticeable difference. Google continues to use them as a strong signal of authority and trust. Often, the pages that stay stuck on page 2 or 3 lack that external authority boost. That said, solid on-page foundations and topical depth are still essential, and focusing on them first is smart. Over the long term, a balanced approach — strong content, technical health, and quality backlinks — usually proves more reliable than relying on just one factor.

Yeah backlinks still play a big role in 2025. Good content and on page SEO can rank but without links it often stalls around page 2 or 3. Backlinks are still what push pages to the top
