Is Weebly Dead For Web 2.0 Links?

I have been hearing mixed messages about this. Some people have been saying that weebly no longer indexes and some saying its nofollow now. Many people are saying that it is no longer an effective link for SEO. I have built many in the past and my questions are.

1. Are my old weebly web 2.0's worthless now?
2. Are weebly web 2.0's dead for link building
3. Should I continue to build them?

Let me know what you guys think about this so we can get this out there clearly for everybody once and for all.

Check your old weeblies for indexation and follwoed status. If they are intact, then you are good to go.
 
No, try forcing an index via the google url submission tool
 
I never liked Weebly, but that doesn't speak directly to the question of no-follow and/or if it's good for SEO. I just found it to be clunky, and generally didn't appear to add real value to any of my SEO efforts anyway, but I had a habit of pushing a bunch of crap too. Maybe that's part of it.

I hope they still work for you, and I'm sure someone definitively knows the answer. I'm sure G will tell you via index submission, or you can see by checking various online tools.

According to this somewhat questionably written recent article, the question of whether or not Weebly links are nofollow is not that relevant in a larger SEO strategy because G does in fact follow the links, and also does count it towards your overall SEO evaluation in determining how to rank your site. For clarity it might not be a generally good practice to ONLY have nofollow links, and a good strategy includes a mix of both nofollow and ******** links. I believe that to be accurate based on my own experiences.

Interesting thanks for the read and the detailed answer. From looking at some of my older web 2.0 links they are still do follow. Which is somewhat good news.

The new question is do they index in google anymore. i have read weebly has changed their site so that free accounts are no longer indexable on google. They are blocked from being visited by googlebot through robots.txt

Can anybody confirm this is true?

Are you positive about that because I have been hearing many different things. Now I am confused lol

It looks to me like its indexed. When did you make that and what did you use for tier 2 backlinks if you do not mind me asking?

Why are so many people saying its not indexing? Seems odd to me.
 
Seems to only affect newly made accounts.

The older sites you set up should be fine. Mine all are.
 
OP. Take a look at your robots.txt

User-agent: *
Disallow: /


Seems like Weebly has blocked all crawlers. Surprise that the righteous Google is not abiding by the rules and indexing your website :rolleyes:

I made it mid-Janiary 2016, well after they added the claim to not allow indexing unless you paid. Iade it to provide examples for my thread about web2.0s.

I simply fired about a 5,000 kitchen-sink GSA blast per post, plus about 200 do-follow contextual comments to the the homepage.

People are saying it because Weebly states that they don't allow indexing unless you pay, they don't test things out for themselves.
Same as you hear many people talking about Tumblr not being good because of the refresh.
Heck, test enough things and you can figure out how to get do-follow links from Facebook ;-)
 
I too created lots of Weebly earlier and i think those are not effective what tumblr are.
 
Patriotnews said that he did some test and it worked out fine for him. So i guess that weebly isn't that dead anymore.

If am to create a weebly link, i can easily create 1, then wait for 2 weeks and see if it is indexed naturally, or better still, create more than 20 and blast it. It's pretty simple anyways.

I set-up a Weebly website a few days ago and my robots.txt does not look like that. Search engine crawls are allowed, it is fully indexed in Google, and the links on my Weebly site are do-follow.
 
I think most likely all these major web 2.0 providers are going to begin to go nofollow within the next year. We have already seen this happening with other providers (livejournal, soup, etc.) and I think these site owners are going to get tired of dealing with all our magical quality content and eventually just switch to nofollow.

I am 100% positive, if you want to test there is a quick way to do it, create a weebly or tumblr account put up some form of content then go to google search console submit the url and normaly it is indexed within 24 hours you do have to log in to google to submit the url but for the purpose of testing who cares.
 
They still work, there is a different between a property that cannot index and that does not easily index.
