Is Website Copying Illegal?? Can I Avoid Getting Sued?

I am 16 years old, I live with my parents, and DEFINITELY don't want to receive any law-suit crap in the mail.

I have been using a strategy for 3-4 months now, banking me an average of about $50 per day.

Basically, I use some of the other CPA methods on BHW and such, but to make it look legit and real, I put the CPA offer on a site that LOOKS like the website of a major company.




To avoid legal trouble, I would set this up on a free domain (co.cc).

A few times, those co.cc pages would go down. When I logged into my co cc account is said the site was taken down because it was reported as phishing. I would quickly make a new co cc account, and copy the HTML over.

So my question is, IS this illegal? Free domains are turning to crap now and I want to set this up on a solid .net or .com domain. My true information would show up if someone did a WHOIS check.

Would someone report my site to the big companies? Would i get in big trouble?

If you're worried, buy domains through internet.bs and get some offshore hosting.

If you do get caught, it will likely be through your affiliate network. Chances are, making $50 a day, you're not really going to get noticed, and even if you do, they will just send you a C&D and you can stop (or fight it if you want).

Thanks a bunch man. What about WHOIS Guard (the namecheap service), does that really do anything?

I am also applying for some other networks so I can bring that income even lower ($50 over multiple networks, rather than one)

Aha i love how that cpa offer is worked in there very nice, but like meathead said you souldnt be to worried and they would at most send u a C&D letter but offshore hosting would be a good idea, great idea it looks very real!

That's a tough call to be honest. And I don't know if Apple would just send a letter in this case. I mean there's using a sites content, images, etc, where a C&D is likely, but making the offer look like Apple might piss them off.

But you are 16, so I probably would just plead ignorance lol.

You can use a WHOIS guard, but they can get that info if they really want. If they are just throwaway domains, use fake whois info anyway.

I wouldn't worry about spreading $50 a day across different networks, it's really pocket change in the grand scheme of things.

I think he meant would not.
And regards to that, they'd find you if they wanted to. Theyd' contact the CPA company and see.

People put too much trust in a WhoIS guard. It's the equivalent of wearing a mask and saying "Now the police can never figure out who I am!"

Sometimes law enforcement can get subpoena to force the registrar to show them your contact information (if they have it), or they may do the same with your hosting company.

I wouldn't worry too much though. I work at a hosting company and we get a ton of DMCA complaints from people using content spinners or just downright copy/pasting peoples sites.

The process is usually them filing a DMCA complaint, which some people just give up on, then they need to wait for the DMCA to send the information to the host, then the host will usually give you a couple days before they remove it themselves. (At least this is how it works at my host.)

Point being, it can take a week or more for a complaint the worst I've seen come of it so far is that we chmod their files to 000 so that they can't be displayed. As long as you're not repeatedly ripping content from a high-profile company, you should be safe.

I would still go with private WhoIS though since it does keep you hidden from 99.9999999% of people.

I once did that again with an apple website, and received an email from my host, to remove all that copyrighted stuff .... I removed it and that was it!

Not bad man! Only quite when you receive a warning from your host or affiliate network.

You are looking at several issues.

1) using graphics / design that are copyrighted
2) apple prohibits giveaways

This is a company who has lawyers backed by deeeeeep pockets. I would act accordingly. I've heard of stories where Disney would send C/D letters to cake shops!

All and every websites out there have been copied and plagarized but most of the time the lay out is a bit different...
