Yes, its all just smoke and mirrors. Many newcomers think that if they can spoof 10k users to their website then their rankings will go up. Its only people who are scamming others with traffic logs that need this service. A legitimate web user has no care for fake traffic, as it costs money to run a server, and handle traffic, so having traffic that doesn't do anything is useless. And if you really think someone from the USA or India has the resources as a freelancer to fool google, vs google protecting itself. Think about it intelligently for 5 minutes, and you won't use fake traffic.
