I read not to go with virtual hosting because you will not have your own dedicated IP address which in turn will lessen your chance of being spidered. Has anyone heard anything like this before? Any truth to it?

Thanks!

Which virtual hosting do you mean? Shared hosting or Virtual Private Server (aka Virtual Dedicated Server)?

Both are available with a dedicated IP address, usually an extra $2 per month.

Thanks for the info guys! I will either get a VPS or shared hosting.

Any kind of accound can have a dedicated ip address and if you read more about SEO you`ll see that many experts say that a dedicated ip address will not help you at all. Explanation: This is because most people own a shared account (and shared ip address) and it would not be fair if google for example would penalise all the accounts on that shared ip. Hope you get the point.

Got it! Thanks bud!

The downside to a fixed IP address is that your competitors can easily find out if you own other websites, at least if you host them all under that account, or if you link to your other websites hosted elsewhere.
