Is using blog networks a bad idea now with Penguin?

Hi all, pretty new to the SEO game and I've been reading up on guides on the forums and elsewhere. I've heard reports that using blog networks is now a bad idea with Penguin, is this true? I'm learning to use SEnuke which can post to blog networks extremely quickly. Is it a bad idea to do this now? Thanks in advance.

It depends on the network. If it is a network that carries the same whois footprint across the sites, then as the Reddit Ski Instructor meme says ... you are going to have a bad time. That is the footprint that has sunk most networks and they did not stop to think about it at the time. Find a good network (ie a network that is rejecting content that is typically written with auto-spinners because they read like a drunk monkey wrote them) with independent sites and you are good to go.
 
It depends on the network you are using. I tested a few client's sites and they're still pretty good using blog network, and of course combined with other link types. Diversity, Dripfeed, Deep Linking, that's the key. Read more threads related to link building and you'll find more useful information.
 
I understand dripfeeding and deep linking but I'm still a little unclear on what you mean by diversity. Can you clarify?
 
Also, by the sounds of it, it sounds like it's now better to establish many sites in many different niches and slowly dripfeed them correct?

Anchor Diversity = keywords + generic words as anchors.
General Diversity = Not just .com, but .org, , .net .edu, .gov, .etc all on various servers.

I'm not using an auto spinner and my content reads very naturally. Given that my articles will be unique, can I still be deindexed for publishing to sketchy blogs, particularly if I'm using SENuke, Scrapebox or programs of that sort?
 
I'm going to sound like a complete dumbass right now but what's a blog network? Is a bunch of blogs linked to each other?

A friend of mine explained this to me, but can you keep sites ranked long enough for this to work effectively?

I'm being VERY careful with Senuke these days. I did a lot of damage to myself leading up to penguin with
 
My advise to you mate is don't listen to everything you hear on these forums.Its like one person says something then it gets the snowball effect just try it out yourself.Ive seen tons of stuff what people say don't work and the sites ranking first page of Google.Just my 2cent

Well, this whole Internet thing was never gonna last anyway.

Everything you do online you do on a media that is constantly evolving. Some aspects of SEO that a lot of people relied on have taken a huge blow. That doesn't mean SEO is dead.

Put it this way, Google certainly still use something to determine which sites are supposed to come up first for a given keyword. I don't think they manually go through each individual page on the internetweb to rank each page for specific keywords. The fact that automated factors are still in use means SEO is not dead and never will. The game has changed is all!

This doesn't necessarily seem like a bad thing though. If anything it seems like it's going to weed out the lazier SEOs.
