I think Twitter is one of the leaders in social media right now, if not number 1.
College users and high school users are turning to Twitter more than ever now in terms of time used...definitely more than Facebook etc.
I don't see it going anywhere, but the spam that is going on is definitely getting worse.

These social networks have a much longer lifespan than you'd initially think.
Think about how long Twitter has been around for now and it genuinely is only just starting to reach the peak of its powers - as evidenced by the fact that Twitter are only now starting to really spruik their 'Sponsored/Promoted Tweets' services now.
You should never place all of your IM eggs in the one social network basket because they are all going to die eventually.
If you are thinking about whether or not it is worth your time incorporating Twitter in your overall promotional plans then the answer is still an emphatic, 'Absolutely.'

I don't think it's going anywhere. The first time I heard about twitter was back in 2008 I think and it just kept going uphill from there. Unless something new comes out that's simple and original, I don't think people will start to switch to anything else. After all, it's like a game, who can get the most followers and retweets and such. People wanna compete.

I highly doubt pheed will become anything close to what Twitter was. It started getting popular because some celebrities were using it, now it's just dying out. Most celebs that used it are no longer doing so either.

Twitter is not falling apart by any means. It is growing daily, and besides, twitter is a whole different situation that myspace. As it was said, they are different platforms!

The only social networking site that will overtake it will have to be something better. What's better than Twitter? Nothing. The only type of network I envision overcoming them is something that moves past text to video. And notice how Vine took off?

Twitter will not die for a good 10 years unless something really new and innovative and unique comes out and 1/3 of Twitter users migrate. If that does happen everyone will leave Twitter because everyone is leaving Twitter.
It's what happened with MySpace. Facebook came out.
Also, currently rising platforms are: Instagram, Vine, and Keek
Pheed is pretty much dead.
