I think yes, twitter is dead.

After a week of work i started getting 500 unique visitors just from twitter which was great. But when i checked out my earnings it was $0

As i can see twitter has been saturated by spammers. I guess the visitors are the other spammers. The Big Players are the only one's who are making a killing from it like DELL. I heard they made $11 million just from twitter marketing.

I guess It's time for me to open my own company now. :D

But, its true that twitter has finally gone dead. You can make some cents out of it but not some big checks.

So just because you cannot generate traffic and cannot convert what little traffic you did generate you're gona claim a massive social networking site dead.

Wish everyone was like you man

Yes, twitter is laying face down in the ditch a few blocks away from my house.

It's fine to be frustrated - we've all been there in this game - but I'm not sure that spending time here making posts declaring the death of social media is the answer. I am on track to make mid-six figures from twitter this year, and I didn't get started with it until around July 1. To me, it's like a gold rush.

    Some advice:

    1) One, or even several accounts - even with several thousand followers each - won't cut it. You need thousands of accounts if you're trying to make a living from twitter. You need to follow/unfollow at least a few hundred people on every account, every day. There are automated ways to both create and obtain the followers.

    2) Automated, personal sounding, direct messages are your friend. One of the reasons lots of accounts are a good thing is that you can only send 250 DMs per account per day. But multiply that by 4,000, and you're doing 1M+ personal messages per day - and I can tell you the conversion rate is much higher than with spam or other unsolicited methods. It's about relationship building. Done right, they're like pushing the withdrawal button on an ATM.

    3) The devil's in the details. I've never seen a medium where the line between a campaign that is a total failure and raging success is so thin. Keep experimenting until your shit works.

    4) A friend of mine runs a business incubator in San Francisco. If the business hits certain milestones, he gives the entrepreneurs a shirt that says "I made something people want". There is no secret to marketing success on twitter or anywhere else. Figure out what your audience wants, give it to them, and repeat.

I am not talking about the traffic here. I am talking about the conversion rate. CTR from twitter is 0.

Thank you very much. That is a very true advice. After seeing your results I am sure If i scale up the accounts and work more on it I will make a killing out of it.

Twitter is definitely not dead. I am still making a killing with it. If you can drive a lot of traffic and you are driving a lot of traffic... then work on ur landing page to bump up conversions.

No it's not dead. You just have to put alot of work into making your lot of twitter accounts look real.

Even a child knows that 10 accounts is wayyy more powerful than just 3 of them.

Build your army. I tested twitter converts for 2 days a time ago. My 1 account made an honest $32 on yeprev3nue aff network. They were cell phone offers.

    Had about 50 following.

It's dead to me in that there's much better ways to spend my time. It's great to see that a few of you appear to be getting some conversions for your efforts, but I personally spent 8 months twisting and tweaking and tried every angle. Great for traffic, but much too weak for conversions.

    Just my experience

Would you be willing to share a few of your secrets?

I spent a few weeks messing around with Twitter, ended up with 10 accounts each with 1,000+ followers but these all converted terribly. I spent some more time on a handful of accounts targeting real people - making sure to follow people who didn't have lots of followers, mass-following people who were following people only following 10-15 others (wait, did I really just say that?), etc. These accounts amassed much fewer followers but the CTR was much higher, yet conversions were still practically nonexistant.

I was just using Flashtweet at the time, can you share what automated tools you're using? I'd be willing to give Twitter another shot if it can be automated cheaply.

    Thanks :)

well if you can't get the conversions with it...at least you can use it for easy backlinks. and it works really well if you have a new site you want indexed really fast.

After checking my adsense/analytics stats, I can see that the most visitors/money is from twitter... just by auto updating the new posts in the site...

    Direct
    Twitter
    buzz.yahoo.com
    Google

I don't think landing page will get you more conversions. According to a recent survey, if you direct your followers to landing page there are95% chances that they will immediately leave the page as they are not interested in buying but to get some interesting information. If you can make a good blog or website and put different types of ads with some interesting and eye catching information, then there are more chances of getting a good conversion rate.

Asi said, it may make you some cents but not a big amount until and unless you invest a high amount of time into it.

Thanks but I wasn't asking the guy making $0 who ignorantly proclaims "its true that twitter has finally gone dead."
