Anyone had any past/recent experiences of this genre, is it easy to profit with it?

Travel is a tricky niche. Too dynamic to fall into niches you would loosely manage. But I think, if you can get some good specific statistics about top destinations and pick your spot, it could be worthwhile.

So it's a HUGE niche and not so easy to break in :)
Gotta try though.

Travel is a VERY saturated market. However if you can rank well for the right keywords it is profitable.
Maybe go for an emerging travel market and try to become the authority in that destination. Although, there are few (if any) destinations without thousands of sites.
What I'm doing is going for an established, highly competitive destination, and trying my best to rank well for the right keywords. A highly competitive destination means more searches and that advertisers pay more, which in turn means you earn more.
