Some people say that backlinks don't work when there's no traffic !

So suppose there's no one to click on the anchor text on the backlink.

Is the backlink above not worth using?

If linking domain has a huge DR, but zero or near zero organic traffic, it most probably means that the linking domain has been deindexed by Google or anyway Google doesn't like the linking domain. Then the links on that domain are of no use for SEO.

Backlinks constitute a significant part of SEO. They serve as one of the most productive ways to boost a website’s organic traffic.
Backlinks play a major role in how Google determines how trustworthy a website is. “Quality over quantity” is important to keep in mind when building your backlink database.
However, generating quality backlinks cannot happen overnight. You have to be patient and cautious in order to generate quality backlinks.
A website’s traffic dictates the level of authority in which the backlink is serviced. Websites with high traffic are more coveted to be listed on and rank higher.

May not say it's correct. It works and also boost your site. A good link from an trust site can increase your traffic and also clicks as well as leads. Backlinks should be high quality potent site which is much authoritative too.

It works, but not as much as a good backlink should.

Traffic is not directly related to how good the backlink will be for your SEO. However, indirectly, less traffic may indicate that the website is not a quality one, in which case the backlink may not be very useful.

This is not really the case,
Most of the PBNs do have little to no traffic and you won't get any actual referral traffic from but they still do the job better pretty well,
The case can be the same for guest posts, niche edits, web 2.0s & any other type of links,
This is simply not how things work, a good link is a good one no matter if it does bring traffic or not

Traffic = value.
Backlinks with traffic = much higher value comparing to links without traffic.

Everyone is talking about this worry coming from the new google patent, average surfer or something, but the link does mention
"However, the patent relates mostly to the position of a link on a given page. Nowhere does the patent mention traffic."

However, I've never thought it was a good idea to get backlinks for your site until you have at least a trickle of organic visitors.

Does it make sense for someone to link to a site without exposure?

That's what typically happens when you blast links to a new domain

Backlinks help websites increase their search traffic and rankings on search engines. However, only high-quality backlinks will generate the best SEO results and actually increase your website traffic.

You have to be patient and cautious in order to generate quality backlinks. A website's traffic dictates the level of authority in which the backlink is serviced. Websites with high traffic are more coveted to be listed on and rank higher.
