Hi everyone,

I’ve been analyzing different backlink strategies lately and noticed a growing emphasis on topical relevance rather than just chasing high authority metrics. A link from a website closely related to your niche often appears more natural and may even bring better-qualified traffic.

On the other hand, high-authority domains have traditionally been seen as stronger ranking signals regardless of niche fit.

From your recent experience, which has had a bigger impact on rankings topical relevance or domain authority? Have you seen better long-term stability when focusing on one over the other?

Looking forward to hearing your insights and real-world experiences.

Topical relevance is winning right now because google’s algorithm prioritizes context over raw power.
A link from a smaller related blog is often more effective than a random link from a giant unrelated website.
While high authority might provide a quick spike sticking to your niche ensures your rankings stay stable during updates.
You should always choose a link that makes sense for your audience over just chasing a high metric number.

You are on the right track with this. In real life, a balanced approach usually works best. Strong authority helps, but relevancy often makes the connection profile look more genuine and long-lasting. If you can focus on sites that are both relevant to your topic and have some authority, your rankings will probably stay steady over time instead than going up and down quickly.

Hello searchlogic, topical relevance definitely seems to be carrying more weight lately as Google gets better at understanding niche authority. While a high DA link still provides a solid power boost, a highly relevant link usually feels more natural and tends to hold its value much longer. Focusing on relevance usually leads to better long-term stability and avoids those sudden ranking drops

Lately, topical relevance tends to have a stronger long-term impact, especially for stability and natural link profiles, while pure domain authority without relevance doesn’t move rankings like it used to. Ideally, the best results come from combining solid authority with strong niche alignment.

Topical relevance now often outweighs pure domain authority for long-term stability links from closely related sites signal stronger context and attract more qualified traffic, while high-authority links without relevance may not move rankings as effectively.

It appears that having a backlink from a site that is related to your niche is more important than having a backlink from an authority site that is not related to your niche because it drives more relevant traffic to your site

In 2026, topical relevance usually has a bigger impact than raw domain authority for long-term stability. Links from closely related sites signal strong context to search engines and attract more qualified traffic, while high-authority links without relevance often have less effect on sustained rankings.

topical relevance is way better now, google cares more about the niche fit than just a high DA score.

Yes, Topical relevance is now more importance than Domain Authority(DA) because search engine prioritize content expertise and relevance over just link strength. A site with a strong topical authority in niche relevance can rank with a lower DA if consistently covers the subject in earn in relevance backlinks. DA matter for link strength but by topical relevance will more time rank in 2026.

I see that topical relevance really delivers stronger results.

I have two projects in the crypto niche. One focuses on placements in media outlets and high-quality, niche-relevant websites. The other buys links more broadly - in larger volumes and from authoritative sites, but without strict topical filtering.

So far, I’m seeing that the first project is gaining traffic faster and performing better than the second one, even though it has a smaller budget.

That’s why I believe it’s worth prioritizing the topical relevance of backlinks.

A link from a smaller niche site moves rankings more naturally than random dr90 general blog auth still helps but only when it matches topic.
