I have an auto blog that I just started up trying to advertise and get higher pr. It has been increasing in the number of hits a day, but it is only around 20 hits a day. I am confused though, because I have just under 1000 pages indexed on google from this website. Any ideas why so little traffic?

While having your pages indexed is all well and good it really does not get you much. You need to rank those pages for keywords that people are searching for. To get your traffic up you need to get ranked in the top 5 for as many keywords as possible. If you have 1k pages you should have plenty of opportunities to get ranked.

What have you done to rank for the keywords you are targeting?

Nothing at all really. I'm not sure what to do to get the autoblog pages ranked for keywords.

Backlinks.......

If you do not get your pages ranked nobody is going to find them and you will have no traffic. Have you done any niche research to find out what keywords to target? That is the first step and something you should have done before building your site.

You need to pick a few to start with (less than 10) and make sure you have your pages setup correctly for each keyword. Then start backlinking the pages using targeted anchor text for each one. Personally I go 80/20 on my links. 80% of the links to the page I have setup for that keyword and then 20% to the main page of the site. This give each page a very targeted attack as well as giving the main page a good variety of anchor text. If your keywords are closely related you can get a fair amount of double indented listings that way.

I think you have missed a really important thing: Backlinks!

Getting your sites indexed in Google is not enough if you want real people to visit your blog. Say you are targeting a keyword with about 200,000 search results. Your blog will be displayed on site no. 40,41 or 42 (where NO person ever will find it...).

In order to get your site ranked in top position on the first site you need Backlinks, Backlinks and Backlinks.

I have around 40 backlinks but these are not for specific article urls, they are for the main website. I'll take your advice and try finding some keywords.

Make sure you use the proper anchor text for each page. It is the single most important aspect of getting ranked.

yes it is a very good idea to link to some of the articles inside. an easy way to help with this is on a twitter account. tweet your keyword and the url (actual url if u can, not shortened one). twitter stuff shows up really fast in google.

Definitely concentrate on backlinks and make sure you are getting links to article pages and not just the main page of your site. If they don't lead to inside pages, they're not going to do you much good.

The amount of time somebody will spend looking at your site when they arrive on it is just a second or two at most before they click away. If you don't have something on the page they arrive on that grabs them and keeps them, then they're gone...and so is your possibility of profit.

I've had blogs with about 50 to 100 content pages that have pulled hits in the low hundreds per day within less than a month of going up and produced profitably for years. Backlinks! Meaningful, specific backlinks.

Actually its not shitty content. The average time on the site is 5:22 and the amount of page views is around 3 times higher than the amount of hits.

Use a plug-in that puts related posts at the bottom of every page. Then concentrate on getting backlinks for a handful of pages at a time. The "link juice" will propagate through your site that way, and you can focus on the best pages on the site.

When you start seeing decent rankings for those pages. Start working in a few others.
