I recently signed up for a vps account and when i sftp files it seems to take ages. For example a file that is 38.4mb took over an hour. Also it always loses connection with the host (i never loose internet connection).

Do any of you experience that?

Edit: Another example, after I upload some files I need to open the terminal and it takes ages to connect and keeps failing.

How much memory does it have? Run "top" command in ssh when uploading and see what it does. Sometimes if low powered it will take a long time to free memory again.

this is definitely not a normal behavior for a vps! do you have internet problems in general with your dsl or cable? can you upload files onto other servers without any problems?

also check your server logfiles for errors and warnings. as previously said, check memory usage. if its too low the swap file will be used and if swap is full you may experience really strange errors. so if you order another vps in the future, make sure it has enough ram :)

Thanks. Everything else was working fine and I could ftp to my shared hosting but I couldnt use winscp with my vps. I got a refund and went to knownhost.
