Hi all,

Something I have been thinking about the last couple of days...

I only found out about the wonderful world of SEO, and even IM, around September 2020, since then I have of course dived in headfirst and been at it non-stop 16-18 hours most days. I have a kid and a GF and have managed to fit family time around my work as much as possible (he's 3 so nerf gun fights then back at it) but relationships with friends etc have suffered, I don't answer my phone anymore or reply to texts (no time) and its causing friction, my question is.. should I give a fuck that I'm going to lose my friends? I couldn't care less for loads of reasons, but my GF thinks I'm blinded by my focus at the minute and that I'll eventually regret it, anyone got any input?

The plan is graft like fuck and everything will resolve itself, am I a delusional weirdo?

I can relate. When I become hyper-focused on a project or website I'm working on it can be so easy neglect other areas of my life. But balance really is the key. I would try making the time to hang out with friends once in a while in between your work instead of just tuning them out completely.

Well, I would say friends and family should be part of your well being, but I'm a loner myself who don't care much about relationships. I know some people will miss them and some people won't.

I got 3 kids and a wife myself, oldest is 4 and I pretty much put them in as #1. I stay up at night and do IM things so the only thing I'm taxing is my health lol.

I'd ask myself will I miss those friends if things won't work out or for any other reason.

I can definitely see the argument for keeping things balanced, it's just finding the time I suppose  Thank you for the input..I wasn't really sure about whether I should post this or not (i don't usually talk personal things) but its played on my mind last couple days and i don't want it affecting my work, your perspective really helps!

I hear you, I've got the missus and my lad so I'm more than happy there, wasn't really a loner before but then Covid hit and now I enjoy the very simple life of just us 3 and my work.

The honest answer to your question is no, not at all! So I suppose I've got my answer with what I should do, and I was probably always a weirdo anyways :D

I am definetely guilty of this as well... In my opinion there are only a few people that you should not lose contact, such as very close friends and other people that you can trust with your life. As for the others, you won't lose much by ditching them (especially if they are low-life losers that only want to drag you down with them)

Yep, that's the flip side to it I suppose... not many of them understand why I would work like this, so many hours etc, I have tried explaining the potential but understandably they don't get it, so there's negativity. I launched an affiliate site in November and because I didn't make 10k my first month there were comments  And as for the rest, I wouldn't call them low life but I get the impression they definitely don't want me to succeed so as you say probably not losing much.

Priorities change as you get older. I used to go out a lot at bars and friends, but it slowly dropped off when I aged. When I got kids drinking alcohol started to drop little by little, I hardly drink these days. Maybe once every 3 months.

I'm quite happy with spending time with the kids really. I see them growing up even if COVID fucked up my work situation, but it's slowly getting better. :) To be honest, they take so much time that I don't even miss anything else, I'm happy when I get time for doing my own stuff even a little lol.

Edit: When it comes to IM, you don't talk about the fight club. :D

A good balance of both is healthy. Allow yourself some time to relax and see friends or hang out with your family. Working too long of hours will cause diminishing returns, so rest yourself

I did it, ignored everyone, and eventually, that got rid of everyone it can be a lonely life,
But look at it the smart way, I am not at-need or any of my whole family.

I had a dog at the time. So I had my true friend,
but when my friend/dog died 11 years later i didn't have a single friend around even to this day.

I strongly suggest family mean the world when you got no friends,
if your a very close family person like me you be ok.

But if your good at balancing things out with your time and friend relationships, it best to balance your friends time as well.

wish you good luck.

PS , We all get annoyed from mates knocking at wrong times.

Remeber sharing is careing.

also, remember your friends are there for life, we all get old, trust me it not nice being old and lonly.

Appreciate the response, with at least 11 years invested id consider you a veteran so it's nice to get your opinion! I think i will probably start trying to make a bit of time for other people, at least in the short term and see how it goes. Seems most people think the balance is important, but I will be honest, I would rather spend 100% of my time with my work and family.

Focus on your journey - but take this advice well, allot time for your loved ones, especially your GF.

Otherwise your focus may undermine other aspects in your life - and when that happens, you will in turn lose your own self -

either by being too emotionally unstable to continue your IM Journey or too engrossed with IM you lose everyhing

To keep it simple - think of it this way, your family - your GF and Kid, is part of your IM Journey as well.

you need friends in your life, probably lol?
I would keep the ones who are true friends.
The rest, is really whatever honestly, then again my opinion on friends.

It's important to stress the ability to stay focused as well. This can differ from person to person
So, congrats on that.
Just don't avoid your friends altogether. Dedicate some time to chill with them.

Definitely agree with you 100% there, they're both the reason any of this is worthwhile, and to clarify I'm a good dad, spend a minimum hour a day homeschooling him while Covid has his school closed and play as much as I can but it really doesn't leave time for anything else, I like your sentence about focus undermining other aspects of life though that makes a lot of sense.

You're probably gonna regret it at some time. Finding a good balance is important. No money in the world can replace the good times with your loved ones.

Well, I would say if it's real friends, they understand that you are super busy right now. When you are still building up your business it's important to be focused. In any case you should find time for your family as they need you, especially your kid. But real friends should be understandable.

Once your business is running you can mark fix times in your calendar for friends meetings. Even if it's just once a week for a few hours, it's better than nothing and helps to keep friendhips alive.
I do it this way, it works. But I also work at night a lot and sleep less. But as I see from other comments, it's quite normal as a business man.
