Is this normal for google places?

I claimed an unverified listing for a client today and added photos and videos etc as this was a listing Google had scraped which only had the NAP on display, however on the second line of the address it had the words, "town centre" why I don't know as the 3rd line of the address had the town name. Maybe because his business is located just off the high street (main street)?

So I edited the unverified listing and thought it was my lucky day when I got to verify the listing by phone! Verification initialy went well with the confirmation of the pin. However it couldn't find my location on maps. I did a bit of googling and it turned out to be some bug so I am not worried about that.

However when I searched for the business in google the old unverified listing was still there but it had my new photos and videos but none of the other details I saved and it still had the funny old address. In haste I went to my places account and saw two listings. The new one and the old one so I deleted the old one from my account but not from the maps.

The listing is showing up as owner verified now in the top right hand corner but on the left hand side below the business name it still says this is an unverified listing.

An interesting point though when I added one of those updates things that last for 30 days it showed up instantly on the place page (which I believe is the norm).

My hunch is to wait a week or so and hope Google updates the rest of the listing naturally. Or should I jump the gun and report it as a problem to Google now as it can take weeks to resolve merged listings.

Any advice would be great as I couldn't find anything close to my situation when searching online

Wish I could help you bud. I'm not versed in GP. I'd say from my experience, there are folks who hang out here & WF. Post away over there if no one here answers.

I've found people here to be more organic SEO knowledgable. But GP is a little different, so you may have better luck in their offline section.

Pretty new here, but I will chime in to offer some advice.

That tells me that you have two listings live in the Google Plus Local listings.

The problem with your listing showing an old address, but showing the new pictures, etc. is consistent with the merging of duplicate listings. This merging happens in funny ways and usually means information is meshed together during a search rather than a permanent merging of 2 or more listings leaving only a single listing in its place. My point? You have rogue listings that you need to delete from the maps database.

In my experience, the fastest way to get rid of these is to submit a support ticket with Google Plus Local, let them know about the funky address, etc. and ask that they remove your duplicate listings. Because duplicate listings are usually merged in real-time, it's not always possible to actually SEE two listings in the SERPs. The rogue listings are often "hidden" from your view. So... tell Google there is definitely at least one other listing out there, and you'd like to get it removed to avoid "confusing your clients." I suggest you also ask them to manually render your business address to the way you want it displayed. Since you've already claimed one, they should be willing to do this for you without asking you to re-verify the listing. Again, you want them to know that "your clients usually know you by such-and-such an address / name, and you want to avoid confusing any of them. It will help if you can send them links to other citations or your website to prove that the address you want on G+ Local is the one you use everywhere else.

How do you submit a ticket?

Go to you Google Plus Local backend. At the bottom of the page you can click "Google Places Help"

Click: My listing has incorrect information

Click: There is a duplicate listing that I would like to have removed.

Fill in the details that I suggested. Likely you won't have the URL for the duplicate listing (or maybe not even for the listing you want to keep) so just grab any G+ Local URL and put it in there, being sure to mention why you did that in the additional details box. You can't put N/A in those fields.

Google is usually excellent to respond with 24 hours and I find them very helpful if you're exceedingly polite
