I'm just getting my feet wet and even this seems hard to me. Can I ask why this is a shortcut? It is still tiered link building, I thought that was good stuff?

From my perspective it's easier to build a long-term business by learning the so-called "white-hat" stuff at the beginning. Spun content is useful, but you need to know what quality content is before understanding what to do with spun content. Else, you will be in the shoes of so many people who are crying our loud whenever Google makes an update.
