I follow all guidelines from the forums, yet I do not think i would ever be eble for something that is more medium competitive, let alone it is highly competitive.

This is not true....I follow guidelines here since August and one of my MNS (which i bought here) ranks on page one right now for 10 keywords all high competitive. |I know its temporary but the least 3 weeks I bank for the first time

I bought 2 MNS from here and didn't earn anything.

Thi is a poor choice of keyword. I do not see the sense in ranking for it. It is an incomplete keyword.

Ranking for it will be hard and not worth it. It will be hard to make money with it. The searches you are seeing are because it is the root of other keywords.

People do not search for "maldives all inclusive". They search for "maldives all inclusive something" with another word or two as to what is all inclusive.

The phrase has none of the reasons to target it. It is not an informational phrase by itself for adsence,
nor is it an action term or destination term for sales.

Building a website around the keyword is a waste of money, time and effort.

Why is it difficult to rank?

Because of the authority of the domains in the top 10, and the strength of their backlinks. There is nothing like decades old backlinks. The top two are even fully optimized for the term as a by product of their other pages that this keyword is a root of.

Keep in mind there are no external links for lets say first domain. Only internal ones are there.

What would be criteria for choosing a good terms. Is that too strict and could I ignore domain age if other factors are unoptimised:

1) 2 page's pr<=1
2) 2 domain < 5 years old (which is pretty much impossible to find - could this be ignored)
3) 2 backlinks page < 5
5) <4 optimized pages in top 10

Should I then choose keyword 1 or keyword 2:

Each of those is a contributor, but no one can say exactly how much each of those contributes.

If you are determined to go after that keyword, I'd start by picking out some old, authority domain name.

They are ranking on straight domain authority, so you could try and be really specific with your site, make it purely about The Maldives, with loads of content, loads of pages, all interlinking etc.

However, maybe like Techxan says, target something along the lines of "Book a Maldives all inclusive holiday online".

High converting KW which will be much simpler to rank for.

Ok but you think it is competitive so so something must have made you say you that. What is it? When a keyword isn't competitive? Lets use market samuai metric where is clearly seen that the pages don't have much backlinks.



The keyword is just for learning.

Easy - 10X2 web 2.0 + 10 edu links + 30 bookmarks + 10 profiles (everything high pr)

No, It will not be enough to out rank domains with 17 years of authority, a half a million indexed pages (in bing no less), 56.000 referring domains and 4 million backlinks, (some of which are aged), and fully optimized for the term you are targeting.

Look at spot 4. He is trying to do what you are, overide the DA with backlinks to the page. He is a 12year old domain, and is building links to the page (more than you are planning on), and is in only 4th, out of the money.

Not only that but you will have a split focus site.

They may be ranking only on domain authority, but its a hell of a lot of domain authority.

This is an interesting dilemma we face. If there are a few authority results in the top 10, it usually means there is a of chance to crack the nut, but the DA average will be low in this case. In your example, the DA average is a decade. Usually you will see that the ranking pages are not fully optimized for the term also, and their page counts are much lower.

If even half of the competition for this keyword were smaller, younger sites it shows instability in the rankings for that word. These words you are using are all rock solid in their rankings, clearly it takes a very high authority site to rank in this keyword. Not even one person has cracked into the top 10 with less than an 8 year old domain, so that is more or less the ante.

Even the second page of results is impressive.

I am the king of damn the competition and build the site anyway. You never know what you might pull off, or what you can learn even if you fail spectacularly. If I wanted this term,i would go for it, and damn the competition. I have till I die to rank it, and if I live another 15 years, I'll have a hell of a domain on my hands then.

Lets face it, time and upward pressure will rank anything. But from a learning keyword research standpoint, when you see this metric,you ought to say "Not worth the effort." At about half this strength, you should start hearing little alarm bells faintly in the distance.

without reading the previous comments I would stay away from "holiday" terms for 2 reasons...

1)You will spend loads of resources to rank, resources that you might not make back from your earnings
2) People are trained to see specific web site layouts with offers when looking for holidays so you need to put a lot of efforts there as well meaning more resources

That is something that bothered me a lot when doing KW research. I often find Longtail Keywords with a KC under 30 (which indicates low competition in general), but the first pages are all autority pages, like Amazon, Youtube, government sites etc.

Is that positive, since obviously they rank because of their high domain authority, not their page autority (which is pretty low usually) or should I stay away from KWs which have autority sites in the first results?

You want to own that keyword, set up a few media buying campaigns especially on the sites ranking on the top 100 for the keyword. That might pour enough authority into your domain to give you a shot.

Create the ad code in house, and Do follow the ad link if you can get away with it.

Correct! No one would trust a slim out of nowhere site to receive such a costly service IMO.

BTW Techxan I think that "maldives all inclusive" IS a complete keyword. There is nothing more needed to describe what someone searches for.

Think of it this way. If there are a few authority sites in the mix, it might be because google has nothing better to offer. Especially if they are not fully optimized.

When it is all authority sites, that is what Google is ranking there. Especially if they are fully optimized.
