What you can do is put a link to one of those ads that offers "something free" for filling out a form in a txt. When they download it they will get the txt file with the link and it would say something like "Fill this out and get a free Iphone or what ever". So you wont get in trouble because you are actually directing them to something right? Hope i explained this clear enough.

This is the basic concept of PPD sites
You can't get anyone to go through surveys for free stuff
You give em cracks of games or free movies or running software, free music and list goes on

Simple question, so I hope for simple answers:
If I were to set up a website promoting a product that usually costs money, but say I give it away for free and lead people to my content lockers/PPD/whatever and make them download/access a faked file, would that be considered illegal in any way? Please remember, I'm only using the promise to give away something expensive for free, to boost the incoming traffic, I won't be giving away actual material.

It would probably be a breach of contract to offer something and then not supply it, depending on the circumstances. I'd have a hard time seeing how it could be criminal, though.

However, you can word your offer in such a way as to deliver exactly what you offered (though not necessarily what the user was expecting).

Notwithstanding the above; I can't actually imagine any prosecutor particularly caring about some guy on the internet with a 'Download XYZ' link that doesn't actually let the user 'download XYZ'.
I think to police the internet for things like this would take far more time and resources than is collectively available to the entire human race.

Yeah, I just realized that haha. Well actually I wasn't really worried about the download link itself, but about my landing page, since this would be the place where all the traffic would be redirected and the DL links are at.
And I guess promoting shareware, games, etc on a website is quite different than just promoting your DL link itself on a forum, chat, w/e, right?
