is this hack true

my gf sent me this scam about phones and i was wondering if it was true here is it

If you recieve a call on your mobile saying that he or she is a company Engineer and just needs to check the line and asks you to press Hash90. End the call immediately, as they are a fraud company using a device that once u press hash90 they can access your sim and make calls.

anyone know if this is possible

Ive heard something like this before accept the one I heard was that once you press the digits they ask you to press, you are signed up to some premium rate text message service which is impossible to cancel

At one point in time, these types of scams were pretty prevalent. I think most of the major carriers (at least in the US) have plugged up the holes. There are new cellphone exploits now that are even more profitable and black hat, but most of them are also sketchy and EXTREMELY illegal. I'd never do anything like that, but I was screwed myself for < $100 on one occasion. The hacks involve hijacking phones VIA bluetooth though, I don't think this is the forum to be discussing such happenings in.

Always password your BlueTooth, no matter what the manufacturer's notes says!

Yep those scams are nothing new (and not only in the united states). Basically if someone pretend to be an operator and ask you to press any digits (Hash90 or anything else), chances are that this is a scam. No real operator will ask you such a thing, because they are able to access your line for any test or upgrade on the network without even telling you. So if you receive such a call, just say get lost and hang up
