Someone purchased earphones from me, he was satisfied (i checked with him when received) but didnt leave feedback.
Anyway one month later he opens a case saying the earphones are damaged and he is asking for a solution.
What should i do? how am i to know he didnt damage it himself? its the first time in over 150 transactions something like this happens to me...

via what means? ebay messaging? you're golden if so....

    Email? still have a chance.

Try to fight the case (is it with pp or ebay?) Sounds like he's trying to pull a fast one. Just make sure you reply to all request in a timely manner or you will auto-lose the case.

He left me a message through eBay saying all got to him OK but after a month the earphones stopped working...
The case was opened through eBay, plus he said that the package wasn't shrink wrapped which is not true but i have no proof.

You're responsible for getting the item to him in a timely manner and safely -- while the item is properly working (if you sold it as such). What was the return policy on your listing? How much did they sell for? Has he left feedback yet? Do a cost/benefit analysis to decide the next step. If they were 10$ headphones, tell him to keep them, refund them, and block him. Either way, block him as a buyer ASAP and go from there. I would just try to fight it -- not being shrink wrap doesn't make them stop working after nearly 30 days.

What type of case did he open? Item not as described?

these are 80 dollar worth earphones): thats why im upset if it was cheap i wouldn't mind refunding him.
I have no backup accounts and dont want to risk this one getting a strike b.c of this guy.

he saw you are a good seller making alot of sales so he bought that only to get free earphones. He will get hes money back, or you can try to give him partial refund. He didn't left any feedback yet just to make you refund him.Hes blackmailing you with negative feedback. He knows thats gonna hurt your bank and if your just smart enought, you will just refund him and keep going.Any business has some looses.Take it like a man...do what must be done , not what you wanna do.Refund him and keep going! You won 100s of $80 till now...so why risk all that when you know what your facing and what would happen.Just play it smart...you have no way out of this...

no dont refund him. If he sent you a message via ebay then show ebay the message in the case. then they'll know he's lying.

/\ Dont listen to the people above.
You want your ebay account in good standing? Well give him your refund. You know the policy the "Customer is always right". Well, he is... Even if you know he is total idiot/his fault. I assure if you dont give him the refund, youll get a negative and ebay/paypal will refund him regardless if you choose to accept or refuse the package with tracking. So is a 20-200 dollars or whatever a bad loss for a good account that is making 3-10k or whatever a month? No.... Duh... This is why so many people fail at ebay. There ego gets in their way. Swallow your ego, bend down, take it in the a**, and give him your refund... (Trust me, in the long run its worth it. Today some dumb a** emailed me about some broken products he bought from me and he is like I would like to return it because its broken... Well no s***, anyways i gave him the option to return it. 20 dollar loss is not worth my account)

Did you mentioned that you are giving a life-time warranty for these earpieces?? I am sure not.....Do not give him any refund and if he files a dispute show them the conversion screenshot between you and him in which he was satisfied or if you have a receipt then that's too good.

Let him send the earphones back to you, check if it's damaged and if so, send new ones.

Yea try to talk to ebay about it and show evidence that he said everything was fine the first time you checked up on him. 80 is a lot, but if all else fails I would refund the money because you don't want to risk getting a bad feedback from the guy. Are you long time seller on ebay? If you are, 1 bad feedback might not hurt your reputation so this is going to be your call. If you are just starting out I would just refund the money or try to compromise with him. Hope this helps.

so i offered the guy 35$ refund and keep the headphones, or send me the earphones and ill send him a different model as i dont have that model any more, or send me the earphones and receive full refund.
You know what he responded? I want a full refund and you to pay my shipping cost as well. such an ass!
So now im thinking about taking it with eBay just in spite.
He really got om my nerves.

Don't refund. State your return policy and I assume it's 14 days. In eBay you need to make costumer say that it is his fault. If item is not as described then ask him to explain exactly what the problem is. Never compromise just keep on trolling him, not to get him mad but to make a mistake in the messages that states that he got it in working condition but after some time they broke.

Can't see messages but pick words like "they stopped working after a month". ALWAYS ACT like you care and make costumer do all the talking.

PS. if you win the case he can't leave you negative.
