Question:
If two websites have the same content - is this duplicate content ?


More details to this question:

-->I intend on Filming videos.
-->I intend on sharing these with someone else.
-->We both intend on:
--> Uploading to our own youtube channels.
-->Creating blog posts of the videos .
-->Putting transcriptions of the videos in the blog post.
-->Releasing months apart.

is there a hard and fast rule probably not knowing seo :)

Are you using the exact same text for both of your transcriptions and the exact same text for both of your blog posts? If yes, you will probably run into issues with duplicate content, meaning that whoever uploads theirs first would get the content indexed in Google easily while the second person to upload may run into problems.

You can get away with having a lot of similar content and still get your pages indexed in Google, but a 100% match generally won't index. What you might consider doing is to each have the same core for your content and then do your own custom intros and outros.
  1. [Blah blah here's my blog post I'm some guy etc]
  2. [Same content verbatim]
  3. [Blah blah yeah here's a custom outro ha ha]
That setup has indexed fine for at least a few projects I've done. There's a lot you can accomplish with some custom spintax... actually... you could probably do all of this with custom spintax intros and outros. Have gotten some sizable sites indexed consistently doing exactly that.

Anyway, better question -- why are you uploading the same thing twice to your two separate blogs? You might get better results by splitting it 50/50. Ex: You each split up your content into two sections -- something like "full content" and "shout outs/joint projects/whatever." The stuff you post under "full content" your partner/other person posts a mini write up on his site -- "blah blah I made a cameo in @Some Guy's video here's a super brief summary check out his channel lmao."

I was considering the following to maximise the use of this content

Alternating who posts the the fresh content first each week ?

one week i might post first
next week the other site posts the same video second

week 2 the other site posts first
week 2 i post the same content second

there are some good ideas in here, ill keep them in mind and talk to the guy i'm working with.
 
You should keep 40% content is different among your web pages, otherwise, Google will consider it as duplicate content.It is hard to get indexed. So just change some words grammar or phrase.

That's Duplicate content only.just remove it and if you want the same content then rewrite and use to check with Copyscape passed then you may use it

Yep ofcourse its a dup content,though content play main role while building links it should be unique and relevant to your niche for spammy content on spammy blogs would effect on rankings..

Yes, obviously it's called duplicate..the first published post took as original in Google side, second published post considered duplicate..

Yeah it considered as a duplicate content.
But if you use canonical tags for this content google doesn't crawl your content.
That means it doesn't crawl twice the same content if use canonical tags.
Only the people would read the content and the content won't index.
